hey guys just gettin my cub dialed in and was looking for some opinions, 35mm carbs with 160 mains and clip in middle of needle. im getting a strong hesitation right before the powerband. is this something that can be fixed by adjusting needle height??? if i rev it past the hesitation it hauls ass all the way to the end of the gear.

Looks a little fat to me. I just got back from Winchester bay on the Oregon coast. I also have a 421 cub with a HJR aggressive port. I have a 152 main jet and I went from a 52 to a 50 pilot because I am getting a hesitation right before the power band. I adjusted the needle to the 3 clip (Cel) and it seemed to get better. Other then that the bike ran real good. I am going to put in a 48 pilot next trip and maybe drop the needle down one more clip.

I am running 48 pilots, 160 mains, cel needles on 4th clip from top, 4 mil cub, sea level, temp 100*F+, humidity 80%+, also have hesitation before

power band. My plugs look alot like yours but many shades darker and hardly any coloration on base ring, but plenty on electrode and porcelain.

Waiting for smaller jets to arrive.

Whats your elevation and temps when riding?

Correct me if I am wrong but read the way to dial in pilots is to turn air screws in or out until the fastest idle is achieved, more than two turns out

install smaller pilots, less than 2 turns out install larger pilots. Then when you are done, readjust your idle to its happy place. Is this method the

accepted practice for pilot sizing? Is this how you are sizing your pilots? If not what is your method?

usually around 25-30 degrees cel. tryed getting my elevation from google earth and got 80ft, not sure if thats right. the 160 main feels good up top. sizing pilot jets is pretty new to me and 52 is the smallest i have now, ill have to play with my air screws and see if theres any difference, im at 2 turns out now. let me know how you make out, seems odd that were both getting hesitation with the diff size pilots. have you tried moving your needle clip?

play around with your pilot and needle. sometimes a bog under load can be a lean one as well....

rich pilot for sure... however your mid range stumble may be something else.

im gonna raise my needle up a notch today and see if it helps, i can also turn my air screws out another full turn for now until i get some smaller pilots.
