IceAlmeida
hey guys im gonna be putting on my t5 pipes and vforce 3 reeds this week i got the tommey perfect jet kit and im gonna try the 280 mains and needle clip in the 3rd position i understand that the t5s can use the stock pilot jet but i was wondering if its a better idea to use the 27.5 pilot will there be a difference in performance or just in carb tuning also im in ontario canada at 950 - 1000ft above sea level i plan to use no air box lid and i have a k&n air filter what would u guys recommend
bansheesandrider
I would have a set of 27.5s on hand, you won't know for sure until you try it. My wife's bike was bone stock, pipes and all, when I put the Toomey 2:1 air filter with a K&N element on it; we had to go with 27.5s to get it to run and start correctly at sea level. This was just adding a better filter, no pipes and was at sealevel, but every bike I have messed with improved breathing(pipes and filters) benefited from a bigger pilot. Also make sure you get the choke tube back between the carbs and keep the float bowls on the carb they came off of as the left bowl is different from the right. BuckeyeShee21
I'm guessing 27.5...... I'm at a 30 with T5's with port work 20cc domes. And +4 timing at the same elevation......and its going to be getting colder soon

Also how accurate is the banshee jetting calculator because it says maybe i should be around the 300-320 range because of the k&n 2to1 airfilter. When you say the end of first and second gear, is it bogging at w.o.t.? When you stab the throttle does it respond well then bog? Where are your airscrews set at right now? Screaming Meemie
yes at wot and my airscrews are at 2.0 out too rich on the mains if its only bogging on the top end.. what are your plugs lookin like? i ran perfect at 900-1000ft with stock pilot, 230 mains, stock needle & clip & 2 turns out on the screws with similar mods. trying to tune for 4900ft is proving to be a bit of a process though
BuckeyeShee21
Main could be rich, but if you do need a 27.5 pilot that bog could possibly go away on the top end. Move your air screw to .5 turn out..... ride around give it a few minutes. If it runs better switch your pilot, if it runs like shit leave the 25 in there and comedown on your main. Jmo...... and your choke tube is connected right?

Im not a pro at plug chops but the 270 and 280 were very very similiar but i found that the 280 performed better for all round throttle response. i currently have the stock needle in the stock 3rd position, 27.5 pilots at 1.5 turns out , & 280 mains. but when i go say from 1/4 throttle to full throttle real fast i have like no power and my engine sounds funny its almost like the top end power goes away but if i back off the throttle it comes back slowly tomorrow im going to play around with my airscrews to see if i can get a crisper wot Edited September 6, 2012 by IceAlmeida
JKJK
I would recommend dropping the needle to lean out the mid circuit, change nothing else+ report back with findings.I'm sure we can help you out. By changing only one thing at a time+testing.Note the change in performance+let us know the results.
