hard to start after top and bottom rebuild

well, i am new to owning quads, and i am stuck. i bought this 99 banshee off my buddy about a year ago under the pretense it ran but didnt drive. long story short, it needed a complete rebuild. i got it back a couple of weeks ago, a friends uncle did all the work on it, and i had a shop do the rebuild east coast atv in coopersburg pa. anyway, the guy who did all the work couldnt get it to run right after the rebuild. the right side wont pull fuel. the only way to get it started is if you pull the air filter, and plug the intake. he tore both carbs apart several times cleaned them, checked them, they are both good. he thinks it will work itself out when it gets broken in. he messed with it for about 2 mos after getting it back together. after it runs for it a bit it will pull fuel, but it wants to stall, and you have to stay on the throttle. my friend who directed me to his uncle has it now to break it in, bc i dont want to screw it up and be out the grand i spent to get it rebuilt. i have a small shopping list of other parts i need to get for it, chain, sprockets, new air filter, reeds things like that. anyway, my friend says i need to carbs tuned, and recommended a shop. tuning the carbs is a couple of screws, they are a bit pricey for my taste. so ive done some looking online and i came across this forum. has anyone had this problem? ive seen some things about syncing the carbs. im thinking this sounds about right, but as far as this quad goes, i really have no clue. this thing is pretty much bone stock as far as i know, but it has t-5 toomey pipes on it. i dont know if this makes a difference. whatever fuel was in it when i got it back my friends uncle put in it. i am sure it was mixed correctly and i do believe he used delray oil. not sure. help! i have had this thing for a year and ridden it for a total of 30 minutes. which was a blast but i want to be able to get on, ride, and not have to worry about it stalling or dying, or having to pull the air filter to get it started. thanks!

Same here? If ur looking to tune your carbs it's pretty easier than u think. Go to Farmandsandtoys.com and order a carb synchronizer , it's a tool to help tune your carbs pretty easily if you have some knowledge.

If East Coast did the work I'm sure it would run fine, but by some slight chance it didn't no doubt they would make it right. Who disassembled the carbs? Did they know some of the parts aren't interchangeable between the 2 carbs? All though they may look like it and still bolt together you can't mix and match.

 

Just by these 2 sentences here; "he thinks it will work itself out when it gets broken in. he messed with it for about 2 mos after getting it back together." Never EVER let this guy wrench on your quad again, don't mean to be a bit of an asshole but seriously just with those 2 statements it's clear he is extremely unqualified for the job. I hope he's not the one you gave the 1k too!!!

 

Now would be a good time to learn how to work on your own machine, it'll save you a shit ton of money! Download the service manual in the technical section and/or buy a Clymers, do alot of searching around here, ask questions, and keep in mind you can always find all kinds of how-to videos and walk-throughs from carb tuning or sync to bottom end dis-assembly/assembly right here and on youtube.

 

...And as stated your post is a bit confusing and definitely doesn't make a whole lot of sense in spots.. Just sayin'.
