CAJUN BANSHEE
I bought a brand new trans from a member off planet sand that was cut by port magic. The cut is m1 2-5. I installed everything according to my clymer. Motor is now completely together minus the clutch basket, plates etc... I decided to bench test the trans by going through all of the gears by hand one at a time. 1st shifted perfect and spun correct, neutral is there, 2nd and 3rd were hard to get going but figured that's normal on a bench test, they finally popped in. Then I get to 4th and it felt funny, kinda restrictive then loosened up once the shift star finally fell into place but after 1 or 2 revolutions it would just stop. (Like another gear was in its way) 5th did the same thing but with a slight restriction. I'm hoping that I'm feeling the effects of backloading instead of a faulty trans. And this isn't supposed to be a dunnable incase yall ask. I am concerned about the spring on the shaft. Hopefully I installed it correctly according to my manual. Pics on the spring would be greatly appreciated along with any feedback. Thanks in advance fellas
RadarRacing
Sounds like you are turning the trans backwards. It will bind and try to go in two gears at once which would be normal. Make sure you are turning it forwards and check back with us. Edited August 10, 2012 by RadarRacing
BigRed350x
I bet when the engine is running it will do ok. Just dont do a full theottle pass when you test it. Hold your throttle at 1/3 or 1/2 and just go along a long straight and run it through the gears. If your not in the powerband really hard and something is out of whack it will more than likely just bind and kill the engine instead of blowing it all to hell. I think your right, I just went through the gears , the correct way for sure , and it wanted to bind up a hair in 4th (I think it wasn't engaging all the way). I went back to n and ran through them four more times with out an issue as long as I was spinning the shaft while I shifted.

Jared Thanks bro, I'm thinking it ok also, went through the gears for the 8th time and never missed a lick, but I'll still be cautious and take your advice. Thanks to you and radar for the quick reply before I freaked out. as much info and help I've found on here I think its time to repay the favor and buy a yearly subscription here, hopefully others will also and keep this great site (family) together. Thanks for all yalls help.
RadarRacing
No problem. HQ has a ton of great help. I did a writeup on the difference and how to adjust the springs on a duneable override on atvdragracers a couple months ago and it has pictures showing if you turn a normal override backwards or dont have the springs right on a duneable it will only turn about 3 revolutions before the dogs will hit. They turn easier when they are in the bike with oil. Here is that override thread. http://forums.atvdragracers.com/topic/12383-duneable-override-spring-balance-and-adjustment/ Edited August 11, 2012 by RadarRacing
