muddripper14 Posted August 10, 2012 Report Share Posted August 10, 2012 hey guys i just recently traded a mojave for a banshee. the banshee is a 1987 and its bore 30 over. when i got it the carbs needed to be cleaned so i cleaned them really good. i can kick it all i want and it wont start. if i spray starting fluid in the carb then kick it it starts right up and will run fine but once i turn it off and try to start it right after it wont start unless i spray starting fluid in it again any help would be appreciated and it also back fires on the left cyclinder and sounds like its missing only at idle Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
fastbanshee8 Posted August 10, 2012 Report Share Posted August 10, 2012 Did you pull the main jets, and pilot jets out, when you cleaned the carbs? Are the air mixture screws adjusted the same? bansheesandrider Posted August 10, 2012 Report Share Posted August 10, 2012 Are the correct float bowls on the correct carbs? The left carb float bowl is different from the right carb float bowl. Do you have the choke tube/hose in place? What are your mods, elevation, and current jet sizes? Do a compression and leakdown tests. Since it is backfiring, you should check your reeds and also put NEW plugs in it. Does it have bright blue/white spark, or is it orangish? You might also check the pickup coil gap. muddripper14 Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Share Posted August 10, 2012 my elevation is 869 feet. the choke tube wasnt there when i got it but i cut a tube and put one there. its pretty much stock other then it being bored over and the guy before me put a pair of silencers on it. my main jet is a 220 and my pilot is a 25 and is has a blue/white spark and the fuel switch is on. how do i check the pick up coil gap Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What is the proper gap on pick up coil? .010?? I had an air leak on left carb where crossover tube/boost bottle connects to the intake boot and mine was doing the same thing. I was doing a break in with 16:1 mix and right side was smoking really bad and left side was clear.
