banshee wont kick start

Recommended Posts

hey guys i just recently traded a mojave for a banshee. the banshee is a 1987 and its bore 30 over. when i got it the carbs needed to be cleaned so i cleaned them really good. i can kick it all i want and it wont start. if i spray starting fluid in the carb then kick it it starts right up and will run fine but once i turn it off and try to start it right after it wont start unless i spray starting fluid in it again any help would be appreciated and it also back fires on the left cyclinder and sounds like its missing only at idle

Are the correct float bowls on the correct carbs? The left carb float bowl is different from the right carb float bowl. Do you have the choke tube/hose in place? What are your mods, elevation, and current jet sizes? Do a compression and leakdown tests. Since it is backfiring, you should check your reeds and also put NEW plugs in it. Does it have bright blue/white spark, or is it orangish? You might also check the pickup coil gap.

What is the proper gap on pick up coil? .010??

I had an air leak on left carb where crossover tube/boost bottle connects to the intake boot and mine was doing the same thing. I was doing a break in with 16:1 mix and right side was smoking really bad and left side was clear. Mine also was idling high and running away (dead giveaway lean condition)
