ruff_rida69
ok I'm planing own building my own temp. gauge and the info wyoduner posted is really helpfull, but Im having a little trouble understanding where the meat temp gauge go's in, ok the T fitting splits and has a hose goning to the radiator and another coming up to the gas tank, does a smaller hose go into the bigger hose and then put the temp gauge into it and then clamp it down with hose clamps? Thanks, Jonathan
deathmetal2004
what about an automotive gage? the sensor is a little big but im sure it can be done, i think i got one laying around somewhere from some past vehicle, whenever it finnaly warms up ill see if i can get it to work. it would be nice to mount the gage right on the bars! Wallrat
See that small 3/8" hose that comes off the top of your head and goes into the top right side of the radiator? Thats the line that you want to splice the temp gauge into - usually closer to the radiator. I used one of those nylon t's originally and it broke before I even finished hooking everything back up. I used a SS fitting we had at work and it worked, but its really bulky. I've since welded up a SS 'y' fitting that will work better, I just haven't installed it. I can grab a pic tonight but won't be able to post until tomorrow. You'll need a few short lengths of increasing diameter hose to match the 1/8" diameter thermometer to the 3/8" hose. gumby
ok kinda crazy idea here but what if u did the mod and then took a bigger piece of hose so you could shove a mech guage prob in so instead of a small meat guage you got a real temp guage
Wallrat
Just do whatever works for you. Regardless, your still trying for the same goal, to know what temp the bike is at and not add any leaks to the system. Try it out and see. efward
I bought a 20 fin inline cooler a few months back. I just couldn't bring myself to cut a perfectly good $60 radiator hose. ;]
Bigairee
Somebody on here was making adapters for the big radiator hose to accept an automotive style guage.

Wallrat
Ok here's the pics that I promised you guys several days ago. The T fitting I used is pretty bulky but after I snapped the nylon one during installation I had to find something in a pinch. That's 3/8" o.d. stainless tubing that comes out of the fitting to attach to the hose: And here's a pic of my inline cooler I mentioned earlier in the thread. Easy mod to do. DUNEDEMON
Here are some pictures of the temp guage I got from "warp drive performance" Cost was like $25 looks like a "meat thermometer" but it was a snap to install and works well.
