Should i trade my 05 Predator for this Banshee?

Recommended Posts

That 03 looks way nicer than the others you posted. Go for it.Tell him you'll meet halfway.

the only problem with meeting halfway is that how would we test ride the bikes? i dont think a walmart parking lot would work haha...man this has me exited 2 in the works so far just gotta choose the best one, and if one doesnt work i have a backup.

Wal-Mart parking lots work great! You can never get kicked out of one.

Lol i hope your joking nah he has a little area to ride so ill just go with that good thing my toy hauler is a danger ranger and gets pretty good fuel mileage. if it ends up being a pos ill try the next one, he says it runs great just bogs sometimes, then the 2000 banshee doesnt idle but runs good and the guy is clueless about how to work on them.

didnt read all the replies before me but i had a 03 predator that I had back in high school that was pretty hammered.... and I freaklin loved it when it was together which was hardly never. If it wouldnt have broke on me everytime I rode it I would still have it, I liked it more than ll my 450s Ive had. Ton of torque, always had awesome starts, didnt stall, loved the handling... and Ive had some long travel 450r's. Mine being a 03 didnt hook up well and had a ton of wheelspin with the longer swingarm that was my main gripe with it.

other than the clutch burning up and it being $280 to replace, the starter going out, the battery always being dead even with a new one, and wheel bearings going out every ride

The pred and banshee are about as opposite as can be. if your pred is reliable Id keep it or ask for some cash unless your just sick of looking at it cause that shees gonna take 10 times the effort to ride in the woods. I got a shee cause I got a heck of a deal on it, their cheap powerhouses and its different

Yea its got crazy amounts of power thats one thing people dont realize is how fast they are if they run right, i have 2 friends with piped, jetted, filter, and cammed yfz and 450r and i actually stay with them, surprised the hell outta me but i do like the feeling of it and it making power everywhere i havent had any problems with it but im afraid it might be a ticking time bomb but who knows...

the 05-07 were definitely the best years also specially it being a TLD with all the goodies and the fox podiums which are like 2k in suspension, steel braided brake lines, tether switch, nice nerfs and grab bar they came with some nice stuff but i just want a banshee i know how they feel, i own a warrior and there an identical feel, it might take a little getting used to and tweaking to get it setup for woods riding but ill make it happen, i wont feel bad about putting time and money into a banshee and there alot cheaper also, which is another reason i wanted to get rid of this just too pricey and no tunability really, ive talked to alot of people who owned them and alot say there mostly reliable but its no argument there pricey...im definitely going to have one of these banshees even if they have some quirky bs with them ill probably still be happy overall.

Years ago there was a kid in my neighborhood with an 05 and it seemed to be reliable enough as he rode it a lot and didn't seem to see a lot of down time and it wasn't that slow but with just fmf fatty's on my first banshee and 14/41 gearing - 22" tires I would walk on him from start to finish and I outweighed him by a lot. It eventually did break down and he just stopped riding it, I assume because of the cost and my 96 banshee was still running like a champ.

The banshee is cheap enough to be modded to change the "feel" from a stock bike. It all comes down to preference in the end on feel but IMO with suspension, shorter swinger, longer stem/bar risers the banshee has an amazing feel in the trails and on the track. Plus the two stroke power is a huge part of the feel and that is the most addictive part of the banshee.

I am itching to finish my 2000, it'll be my first 421 and I can't wait to feel all that power coupled with my new suspension. headbang.gif

I say all this to reinforce why I earlier said I would NEVER keep a predator over a banshee, even if the banshee wasn't the nicest. Get away from it before you have to spend 2-3 K in repairs rather than mods! Throw 2-3k, wisely, at a banshee and your average Joe's who ride around your area won't know what hit them. jesterlaugh.gif

Alright thanks everyone for the help i ended up getting the 03 and it definitely didnt end up being as nice as i thought and it ran like pure butthole and needed a good bit of shit done but it does have a decent amount of mods done to it that i like haha it at one point in time was painted by somebody and it looks horrid, some of it looks like plastidip but the things carbs were so damn outta whack it was nuts, that and the plug was pooped on one side it hardly ran the left side, pipe was cold as hell but after playing with the carbs slides and stuff putting plugs in it ,doesnt seem to bad now for just roughing it in i need a carb sync tool thats for sure.

because of it being worse then i thought i talked him into giving me 200 bucks also which made me barely feel good enough to just say...fuck it idc bye bye predator,i know almost for a fact the 2000 banshee would have been in alot better shape but i didnt wanna drive 3 hours back with that damn predator for no reason so i dont wanna dwell on the fact i could of had a better banshee ill end up getting pissed but at least the banshee is worth putting time and money into even if its in worse shape...my dads in love with it also, he actually has a huge interest in it unlike with 4 strokes ive had since he was a vintage dirtbike guy in the day and raced a cr480 but me and him tinkered with it for literally like 5 hours straight, it seems like it might need a top end soon not sure im just hoping like hell the crank is ok and ill be happy otherwise FML, if going by the stickers on the bike it might have Wiseco pistons and a LA sleeve...all the other stickers i can literally see the part that corresponds to the stickers but i dont know about those two...kinda has me concerned, anyways sorry for the novel ill be doing nick nack shit to it and seeing whats up with it, thanks again :headbang:487743_326524270774900_1242869470_n.jpg405223_326524227441571_1738754498_n.jpg185960_326453247448669_1275739574_n.jpg

Nice job on the trade. You did good man. Enjoy that shee and give it the TLC it needs. Sounds like between you and your dad, youll have it in tip top shape in no time!

Yessir thanks man i definitely will it already seems more enjoyable to work on then past bikes and i love how my dad has such interest it will be a big help and hopefully he will go get a bike himself again.

Awesome, it's hit or miss sometimes with banshee's because so many people are clueless and just do not take care of them, hard to tell from pics alone of course, but you did good in my opinion.

Anything that gets a dad and son involved in the same thing is the best part of the trade without a doubt. Congrats on trading up. beer.gif

Before you ride it too much do yourself a favor and comb over it with a fine tooth comb, check all bearings/bushings for play, do a compression test, check the reeds for wear, do a leak down test, change the oil, clean the filter, make sure the clutch is properly adjusted, sync the carbs, clean the carbs (write down jet sizes while you're in there) get yourself plenty of plugs and do a few plug chops to see how the jetting looks, make sure the exhaust doesn't have any leaks. Just the whole nine, I always strip a new bike down to the frame, clean it, then reassemble and adjust everything properly.

Like you mentioned, the last thing you want is an unknown underlying problem that detonates and spreads the damage.
