jsinar Posted July 15, 2012 Report Share Posted July 15, 2012 If I notch the shifter hole at the bottom so I can pull the stator cover off without removing the shifter will it hurt anything? I can't see that the plastic supports the shifter very much. If I wanted to change the front sprocket I'd have to remove the nerf bar, foot peg, and shifter and the cover to get to it, But if I notched the shifter hole all I'd have to do is pull the cover. bansheesandrider Posted July 15, 2012 Report Share Posted July 15, 2012 Yes the cover supports the shaft and keeps it centered in the seal. If you do what you said it will shorten the seal life and also the bushing in the case. If you don't want to remove all that stuff to get to the sprocket, then you should buy a 3 piece billet stator cover! But, hell it's your bike, do whatever you want to it. Starwriter Posted July 15, 2012 Report Share Posted July 15, 2012 Or you can just cut out the part covering the sprocket like a lot of people do, it will still give the shaft some support and you dont have to take off the cover to swap sprockets. If you are changing them that often, then something may be out of alignment or you are using cheap sprockets. Once you figure out the good gear ratio, you should be set for a while. I was just curious, going to use a 13 for trail and woods riding and a 14 for dirt road riding. just seeing if there was a fast way to swap them.
