Shearer or sniper pipes

Recommended Posts

I think what windy city John is trying to say and so am I but no one wants to hear it is all these motors are not great running motors, meaning if a "better pipe" is to better it has to make more power it useable power ,

But I don't mean in some " average " running motor I mean against the best running motors !!

What I'm saying is say that brand "A" pipe and builder can make say 100hp then to say yours is better it would need to be more or more useable.

Basiclly what are the best numbers all these motors make? And have you beat them cause if not how are they suppose to be better?

If there has ever been a 4 mil DM dyno sheet posted on gas that made more than 113, I must have missed it.

Not that I know of, but I may be wrong. But I do know of a 465cc Cub that pounded out 113.78HP@63.38 lbs tq. on GAS!

LMS1977 and maybe a few others seem to think the numbers are low on the 554DM, they are right.

When Chris had me build this engine, he opted out on the larger carbs I kept advising him he needed. Even after he had a few dyno runs under his belt, he called me concerned with the output numbers. I again, advised him that the higher than normal intake velocity, and only 74 percent cfm efficiency ,put the engine in a situation that it just could not pump the air needed to make the designed power....the air simply wasn't there to pump.

At that time I offered to loan him my 44 Lectrons, just to prove my point. He declined and a short time later the bike was stolen...again Chris, sorry for your loss. And mine too, I felt like the project was incomplete.

With custom reeds and 44's Chris's 554DM was designed to make 126HP@9800RPM ON GAS. Due to the mentioned issues, it never had a chance.

Below are two charts showing displacment vs. RPM vs. carb size. These were the calculations I made and mentioned at the time of the build....Jim

All calculations made in the listed charts are based on SAE standard engineering equations

one that makes more? you need to do more than make a generalized statement. more on gas? what kind of gas? more on alky?

Mailman's engine is on gas, a 4 mill DM on alcohol making 126 is only a .227 engine. All of the big piston engines are not very efficient, the 68mm piston engines can get close to .27 on methanol and the 66mm piston engines can do better than that.

wtf is your point? 127-130 on a 4 dm will smash a 10 cub making 123-124 on alky just due to tq and total power curve. you seem to be making random idiotic post in this thread. i asked a simple question WHAT....... KIND.......OF....... GAS? 116 octane 113hp would be low numbers in my opinion. also the man just said the carbs was what made in a inefficient motor not the bore/cylinder. 113 is a low number no matter how you slice it. i will go ahead and assume ppl dont build dm's and put them on pump gas or 100ll. i would also assume 110-116 octane and 113 is a low number.

Mailman was running 100LL = to 110 race gas. They interchange.

And you want to know why nobody wants to post there dyno sheets, wtf does your 127-130 have to do with this thread? Now multiple Shearer swingers are questioning the motor, who seen that one coming?

i run cpi's. you know, the pipe that has been the same forever and still competes with shearers and snipers? what does the 127-130hp have to do with this thread? what does one single post of yours have to do with this thread?

If you do not have Shearers or Snipers, can I ask why you are posting anything in this thread?

i lol'd

Did I say something funny or did you just enjoy finally getting an answer? ;)

He runs alky in his triple now and if you want a laugh...you should see him with his 5 Gallon fuel jug strapped to his back like a Camelback. :rotflmao: I takes a lot of commitment to dune from camp all the way to olds hill and back with a triple on alky. :notworthy:
