blubyyou
I wouldn't think main jets would have too much to do with starting....your pilots, air screw, idle screws, choke, carb sync, yes. Just take your time, eliminate things as you go, and adjust everything evenly ....it will come together. I was very frustrated with my bike trying to jet it.....learned as i went ....now its just about perfect.
blubyyou
Also throw some new plugs in it....those other plugs might be a little funky by now with problems you are having.
Jereme6655
And make sure your choke tube between the two carbs is in place

blubyyou
Make sure you sync the carbs....tearing them apart and back together is most likely gonna put them out of sync. At least get them close before you start trying to tune the bike. Why not take them apart, clean clean clean, make sure pilots are clean, set float height, needle clip in the middle slot, jet up on the mains as you sound kinda lean as mentioned already, air screw 1 1/2- 1 3/4 turns out from seated., make sure the slides open and close at the same EXACT time, new plugs, get it running and adjust the idle screw/knob to obtain an idle....I think if you would do this it would definitely help and get you pointed in the right direction. How about the compression check? I would definitely do this too so you would have a pretty decent idea on the condition of your topend while you were at it. A leak down test would be a good idea also just to make sure you don't have any air leaks. If it were mine that's would I would do....but I'm far from a pro as to the knowledge level of a lot of the people have on here.
Koba
Im cleaning my carbs in the morning thats for sure double checking to see if they are synced still and hopefilly grabbing more parta for them while im at the dunes as well might end up spending most the day messing with the carbs. blubyyou
If you have access to pilot jets I would just go ahead and put new ones in while you have them apart. They're cheap and that way you know for a fact they are clean. Piece of mind. Good luck and enjoy the time out at the dunes.

bansheesandrider
No spark got it to start but couldnt get the idle to adjust and died now wont start Do you know your way around the carb? Do you know which screw is the idle SPEED screw and which screw is the idle MIXTURE screw? Do you have the TORS removed? My wife's bike is running FMF Fattys, a 2:1 AIR FILTER and at sea level she is jetted with a 290 main, and a 27.5 pilot, the clip is in the middle of the stock needle, and the air screw is AROUND 1.5 turns. We originally ran it with the stock 25 pilot and it was difficult to start and had a fairly violent hit when it came on the powerband, going to the 27.5 pilot made it easier to start, gave it more bottom end and smoothed it out when it came on the powerband. You need to remove your carbs and clean them ONE AT A TIME, some parts are different from the left carb and right carb( the float bowl specifically), make sure you have the correct parts in the correct carb. Clean them, properly jet them, sync them, make sure the choke tube is in place. How are you adjusting your choke? It is either on full, on half or off and there are no adjustments that I know of. All that being said, my bike was hard to start, would only start if I towed it when cold and then would start right up warm. I was on a 1 day ride and as the day went on it got worse. Eventually it would not even tow start. Got home, checked things out, found had no spark. It turned out to be the AFTERMARKET CDI box that had less than 20 hours on it. It was the only thing I could get when I was at ST Anthonys 2 months before.

thomas h.
Are you concerned about your jetting? Just suggesting a plug chop
blubyyou
What Thomas said .....I would get a good plug chop on it to verify main jets.
Koba
Alright she runs now jetted up a bit. Checked plugs looked pretty good maybe need to go up a little bit not a whole bunch
blubyyou
Glad you got it figured out. Now go do i chop and dial the mains in to make sure you're good. Don't want to melt a fresh top end down.
