2strokesallday
Hmm alright so I'm having a problem as you can tell. I'm gonna try to tell you as much as i can about what happened so i bought this banshee blown up from a good friend he ran it too hard and completely blew the left side up. so i ripped it all apart all the parts looked like they were in awesome shape so i bought a new crank and i bought a whole new top end put it together and it ran perfect, started up first kick has great power and powerband and all that. so heres the problem; i went riding with the kid that i bought it from and i kind of noticed that the clutch was grabbing when i turned the handlebars to the left but I'm pretty sure that's just because the cable wasn't routed correctly. so about 1 hour 30 minutes in to riding i stopped and put it in first gear and tried to go but it died. so i start it back up and try to go again but every time i try to go the quad would die again. so after about three tries of trying first gear i just put it in second and went and it worked pretty good but then i tried dropping it into 1st and the rear tires locked up and the motor died and it skidded about 15 feet. after that i was sick of dealing with it and i loaded it up and took it home. the next morning i notice all the oil drained out underneath so i tear the bike down and took it apart. so when i go to look at the clutch i open the casing and there was gas mixed with the oil? the shift star looks fine and i thought the shift shaft looked fine but i think thats where its leaking out so I'm gonna check again so see if its bent. i looked at the clutch and everything looked fine they came apart good I'll check tomorrow to see if there in spec. tore apart the cases and looked at the trans every gear looks perfect except one and I'm not sure if its made like that or what? i would post pictures but i don't know how still .... but the gear has a small groove right in the middle and it it looks to be rounded off but not completely. i can shift it with my hand with the shift star but with it all together it wont go in that gear thats why i don't think its the transmission but you tell me what you think! so my question is how is it possible that gas got into my cases and what are your ideas as to why it wont shift into first or neutral. also does anybody have a picture of the smaller transmission; the gear all the way on the right (from behind the motor)
Jereme6655
if there was gas/oil mixed in with your tranny you should have immediately stopped tearing the motor apart and done a leak down test.......this would have let you know exactly where the leak was that caused some problems. there are a few guys on here that have the bottom end walk throughs with detailed photos.....i know bigred350 has it linked in his signature. sheerider11
Pick up a clymers. Your lucky you didn't destroy all the work you did. As far as the gear, did the gear weld its self in place? Or did you bend one of the shafts? That trans probably heated up something had to happen. I had my 1-2 gear weld it's self in place. Had the same problem your having. Paulie B
Only thing I could think of is your case halves seal is blown, or your right side crank seal is blowing by into the tranny. Both need to be fixt right away of you risk a melt down.
HolySheet
Something similar happened to me today. Quad was running a little shitty but I just figured dirty carbs cause the plugs are new. I started to notice it was shifting a little hard but I just chalked that up to my boots. So I am riding in 2nd not even into the power, just putting, all the sudden the back tires locked up and it wouldnt shift into neutral or anything. So I yanked the plugs out and found gear oil around them. But the strange part is that it won't kick over either. So I am thinking that the oil getting to the crank bent the rod and killed the crank as well. I will know in a few days. Sucks balls though. EDIT- forgot to mention I checked the oil and it's not on the stick, and I think my crank seal was shot.
