gwinnraptor Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 What do you guys think? 1100 elev. stock motor pro circuit pipes & silencers pro design intake no lid 80 degrees out this is with 27.5 pilots and 290 mains Quote
Bkm2006 Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 too lean? .......throw a set of new plugs in and do a wot 1-6 run! kill it and pull in clutch. those plugs look like they have alot of hrs on them... also wack the plug threads off at the base so you can see whats going on better. Quote

Them plugs had about 10 minutes of ride time on them. I put them in, let it idle, rode it a bit to warm up the motor, then did WOT run and killed it and pulled them. How far down am i supposed to cut them? All the way at the bottom of the washer? Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Follow! http://www.dfn.com/agservices/plugchop.html Follow it 100% step by step or don't bother. Couple pics from days gone by..... One on the right is what you want. I haven't done a chop for years, when you can do it by seat of the pants, feel and knowledge, its better and faster and you don't waist plugs and time. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Quote
EvilBanshee Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 your waaay fat. I would drop 3-4 mains Quote
gwinnraptor Posted July 7, 2012 Author Report Posted July 7, 2012 your waaay fat. I would drop 3-4 mains Am i focusing too much on the electrode colors? I know what to look for in the plug chop, but does it mean a pinch of shit how the electrode tip looks or is it just how the smoke ring looks and measures? thanks for all the help fellas, i appreciate it. Im new to this but not new to quads.....jetting is a new battle for me but im catching onto it. Quote
registered user Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 if your only doing short wide open bursts like motox track you can get away with lean jetting on the ragged edge. running pinned for 600' you probly want the brown ring alittle higher up the porcelin. 1/3 to 1/2 way up. im no carb expert but i run 600' and it dont take long to ruin a engine if you get caught with your pants down Quote

"Light light bown as thick as a dime" is darn close to perfect. Quote
registered user Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 according to some tuning books the ideal ring for maximum power is about 1/2 - 2/3 thickness of a dime. basically just a whiff of brown. most people ride for fun and dont need to be a hero running their stuff at the extreme. racing for a million bucks or pink slips it would be a different story. not sure about anybody else but i already burned down one piston this year and thats one too many Quote
registered user Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 supposedly max power happens about 1mm or alittle less. dime is around 1.4mm. i could only assume it takes alot of time to keep a engine tuned on the razors edge like that Quote
EvilBanshee Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 The way to really tell for MAXIMUM power, so to run on a dyno, and put a exhaust bung in that reads Air/fuel ratio. Keep leaning it out until the power starts to drop off. Then you know your perfect. USually peak power is around 13:1-14.5:1 Depending on the engine. Every engine is alittle bit different. I will agree "Peak" power on a spark plug soot ring will be less then a dimes thickness. But if you go with a dime thickness its safe and its close to perfect. Quote
nothing Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 damn how are you chopping the hole threaded section off? running a dremel around the edge all the way around? Quote
do-work-son Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 How big was the jet size change was between all these plug chops savage? 1 Quote
Jgspahn Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 Bump, so I can find this when I need it. Quote
