2002 Banshee piston slap?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i have a 2002 banshee that i think has piston slap. My other banshee the piston cylinder doesnt vibrate like to the point where you can see it. On my 2002 it does and you can hear like the cylinder vibrating you can also see it plain as day shaking. So i was wondering if this is piston slap or just needs all the bolts tightened up. Thanks.

if you have piston slap, you may have a small piston for the bore size, pull it appart and check clearances to make sure there isnt an issue before it damages the cylinders/motor.

how do you know the 2002s all have that issue?

Sometimes the rod can make some noise too. Pull off reeds and turn crank so you can move the con rod side to side. If you can move it more than 1/16 the crank has not been welded and it is comming apart. Mine was about a 1/4 inch of side to side movement when I bought mine.

Also if you piston is slapping you will see the scratches on the piston and cylinders maybe some broken / deformed piston skirt. If you remove the exhaust pipes you can see the top of the the pistons.

As far as the 2002 comment I think that banshee engine has not changed much inside from 1987-2006 and they still make the same engine new today.

Try spraying a shit load of starting fluid in it before you start it, and see if the noise goes away.

LMFAO!

Don't do it, just rip it apart. If you have the tools, take measurements. If not, take the top end to a shop and have them mic them. Why risk engine damage
