Rode one....then bought one! First Banshee!

Recommended Posts

Ok, been lurking a few days, reading as much as I can and using the search function to learn what I can. Rode a buddies Banshee last weekend (had to have one) then he found me one and I picked it up from a 66 year old man that bought it to ride his 5 year old grandaughter on!!!! Yea I know I was thinking the same thing....WTF MAN!! Any way I drove way out the way to go look at it and the bike is pretty clean for 2001 model. Ole man and his wife just wanted it GONE!!!! So I took it off there hands for 2 grand! Went to buddies house yesterday and he said it was a super score! We looked it over cleaned it up, tuned it up, checked compression (125psi) and rode the hell out of it. Its got a boost bottle on it and my buddy said that the first damn thing that needs to go, so we pulled it off, stuck a stock crossover tube in it and fired it up and was riding it and the bastard started blowing oil and smoke out the tail pipes like no other! We thought that maybe the ole man was running some cheap ass two stroke oil in it so we drained the tank, mixed 32:1 Castor 927 with 93 Octane and put the boost bottle back on and fired it up again and it was back to running normal again. So was it the oil/gas mixture or did removing the boost bottle and putting the stock tube back in it change the jetting in it some way?

The oil coming out the pipes was a hard VERY sticky ass tar like build up. Maybe the old man done too much puttin around on the bike and when I was running the shit out of it it busted loose some build up?

Not very many mods on the bike, Gold series FMF's, K&N air filters, Tors delete, and the freaking boost bottle.

Heres a few pics of the bike.

Great site by the way, looking forward to my new addiction!

Ok I pulled the boost bottle and installed the factoy cross tube, took it over to brother-in-laws and we ripped around on it. No issues today, no over excessive smoking, and no tar oil dripping out the tail pipes.

Guess it was the gas/oil mix that was in it. No telling how old it was or what type of oil he was using. Bike is running really great.

Still reading around on the forums trying to learn the lingo and what mods Im going to do next. Im not to fond of the black and white look, first time it got called an Oreo done it for me, Im looking into diffrent color scheme now. Ill prolly ride it for the rest of the summer as is then tear it down this winter and start spending the bucks on it.

Got lots of research to do, prolly followed by questions.

Thanks for the Welcomes everyone, looking forward to building/learning/riding! :headbang:

You have a nice banshee. Since you dont like the white and black plastics replace the white plastics with black ones. You cant go wrong with an all black banshee.

Thanks man!

I fully intend to do a black banshee, both my trucks are black might as well have the banshee to match them.

Seems like billet accessories are way more popular thank black ones though!

Thanks for the welcome!

If/when I can find me some solid black plastics I'll look you up about my white ones. There in pretty good shape, the FMF pipes got to the front plastics, but other than that there pretty good for being as old as the are.

I'll keep you in mind.
