zx6rbanshee
Hello everyone! I was thinking I would share my build with you guys. I hope it inspires more people to try the street bike swaps. I love seeing them on the trail and looking at the craftsmanship. Anyways the Banshee was a 05 with some porting, pipes, +8 swingarm with JJ&A Axel. Engine ran very strong. The donor bike was a 04 ZX6RR F.I. I had bought the bike a few years back and crashed it. I sold it to a friend who turned it into a stunt bike. He sold it back to me last year. zx6rbanshee
Really gives you an idea of how much bigger the street bike engine is! This is my first project like this. This is when I really started thinking what the hell did I get myself into!
Phelps
give you a couple hundred for the stock banshee motor to help out with your build.
xander450
I'm a little unclear on your plan here - is the banshee motor going into the ZX6RR frame, or is the ZX6RR motor going into the banshee frame? Or both?
zx6rbanshee
I had to cut the center section out of the frame. I knew that I would have to keep the front and back pieces square. So I took a long piece of C-Channel Iron and welded it to the front and back of the frame in 8 places. This would lock down the frame and keep it from moving. Or both? Well I still have the bike frame. Never thought about putting the banshee motor in it. That would be a UNIQUE project....
zx6rbanshee
Now its time for a test fit. I put the motor up on blocks to get it where I wanted it. I centered the engine in the frame left to right to get the sprockets to line up. I put a chain on it to help out. I tilted the engine down in the front to make more room for the intake system and fuel injectors. The 04-05 engine has 2 sets of fuel injectors, a primary and secondary, 8 total. The next step for me was to start making new frame rails to fit around the massive engine. I took my time and bent the tubes a little bit at a time till they fit how I wanted. This is about 2 weeks into the project.
nmdesertbansheeryder
what a waste of a perfectly good shee....
zx6rbanshee
Motor mounts were next. the back 4 mounts were easy. Just some 3/16 steel plate welded to the back of the frame. The front 2 motor mounts would need to be removable so you could get the motor in and out of the frame. I welded a piece of plate on both ends of a section of tube. Drilled a hole down the center. Frame is done! I can now cut my frame loose and grind it smooth. She rolls now!
zx6rbanshee
what a waste of a perfectly good shee.... Not the first time Ive herd that! Not a single one of my friends could figure out why I would cut up a good banshee! My good friend almost cried when he saw it cut in half the first time! BigRed350x
...and after all that work, the banshee you tore apart would have been the faster setup. Street-bike swaps very rarely ever work out like one would hope.
zx6rbanshee
Electrical! Well being a Fuel Injected engine there is a shitload of wires, fuses, computers, and a big heavy battery. I had to make a tray for all of this to sit in. With my extremely limited aluminum welding skills, I gave it a try.

And a year of hard riding later and no rebuilds! Extremely reliable!

zx6rbanshee
Now to the biggest pain in the ass of the build. The intake system. As you can see from the pics the bike engine has a huge plastic airbox with the top set of injectors in it. I wanted this bike to look as clean as possible, so the stock airbox had to go. I started making my own out of 1/8in diamond plate. I picked up 2 sheets at my local junkyard for $30. This took me a week to build.
