silencers are wet with oil

Recommended Posts

so im running a lil rich, the ends of my silencers are wet with oil and the plugs are black.

im using 300 mains with the needle clip one down.ive tryed the needle in the middle postion and it had zero throttle responce but with the clip one down it runs like a champ.with the 76mm pistons should i try 290's?

im kinda to chicken to do it because what if im too lean, there goes my investment if you know what i mean

What premix ratio are you running? From what i have read on this forum, a little oil on the end caps isn't a bad thing but you don't want it pouring out or anything. You might need to tune the other circuits before your need to change your main. What is the rest of your setup?

I run 50:1 in mine. If your plugs are wet and black, chances of you burning your motor up by changing one jet size are pretty slim. Are your carbs tuned properly? air screw? pilot? synced?

as far as i know they are in sync.they both move at the same time and at wot are at the same hight.i just tryed 290's and it ran like crap so im thinking i have to go back to 300's and try the needle one more clip up so it moves the needle down.

the air screw with the 290's was at 1.5 out.with the 300's it was set at 2.0

before i changed the mains there was alot of oil on the silencers and it would smoke like a mofo when i started it and dissapear at high speed until i idle it

Personally I would start by changing your mix to 50:1, all the black spooge you taking about is caused by too much oil... and more oil means less fuel (youre running lean)

Not to flame you but its a common misconception that wet plugs are caused by rich mixture, which in fact not totally true when it comes to 2strokes. You already running a high volume of oil (which I think is the cause of all your reported spooge)

I would also run a good synthetic oil.

I understand you wanting to protect your investment but running too rich of a mixture isn't the way to do it.

As others have said, switch to a good synthetic oil that recommends a 50:1 ratio, get a few sets of plugs, and play with one jetting circuit at a time and record the differences on paper and report back. Even take pics of the plugs. Depending on symptoms like sound, plug chop, and power characteristics it's easier for those of us reading to tell if you're on the lean or rich side. beer.gif

Its not the oil or oil ratio... Its the jetting. I've ran 32:1 and 20:1 for years with no issues.

I noticed your running a large CC setup..

Lets start with the basics.

What carbs are you running? (I'm assuming stock?)

What type of air filter?

Has the motor passed a leak down?

Whats your current jetting?

300 main jet dont seem rich but whats your elevation?imo id do a leak down test , if your good there. id fill one hand with new plugs and the other with jets ...its a very ,very slow trial and error thing. but youll be happy when you get it right

goodluck
