2nd. 3rd gear has always felt like the power gear to me. You could probably play with gearing a bunch to get launching in 1st to do the same thing.

Right now I'm geared pretty tall and take off in 1st because I don't have a billet 2nd gear in the 10mil and I don't like risking a broken gear.

pretty much everoyone here goes in second. they have 10mil without billet second and they still launch 2nd.

I do have the spring-loaded billet basket, so that should help reduce the slam on the gear. But I'm also 230lbs. That's a pretty good load on the stock gear.

The ratio jump from 1st to 2nd is greater so idealy you would want to start in 2nd for drag racing. The Less gear change should also make you more consistant. On street or large paddles you may not be able to pull 2nd. There are ways around that i think..

stock second gear, I'm 260, Chris...the former owner (now sold) of my motor is 300ish.

Launch 2nd gear all day long.

You're not going to break a stock second on a 10 mil cub unless you're a retard.

6-7 years...thousands of passes, lots of hook from a couple chubby guys.

1st gear is useless unless you're doing pavement or putzing along in the pits. The stretch between 1st and second is VERY hard to gear accordingly for...

Someone was making an aftermarket tranny with a tightened up 1-2...
