What do you like?

We run 14 over arms here and use at least 14 paddle extremes. If you're hillshooting, with the weight transfer you might be ok, but for flat drags, you need more hook.

I'm doing kinda half and half. We don't have any 300ft tracks here, so this is all racing at the dunes. At Walden its a looong flat run and at KP its a short flat run then up a hill. I will try out the suggestions from everyone so far and see how it does & report back...

Thanks!

depending on sand conditions i run from 12 haulers to 16 extreme. 14 over arm.

if your gettng left behind in a 1-5 you are either not using it right or not transfering enough to the sand ( tire spin) or have some frame issues. i'll pm you

This has work kinda hand in hand with my buddy's 4 cub ported alky and my friends 7 cub ported alky which I ride all the time we r all heavy weights also with 2 / 5 overrides 14 over arms and these things get out the hole hard and if they happen to spin ( which really don't) we just lower the tire pressure to compensate ..... Also don't like running more paddle than that on hill or stuff like that cause you start loosing mph

60' timers is the ideal way to dial in the set-up.

1st gear can work very well for heavy rider's, putting on a 165 lb rider slows the combo down. We are going to try a 2nd gear launch with a different trans.

We run a 7mm cub on race gas, stock frame, +14 arm, 14 paddle rippers 75" RO, 17/41 gearing (39 & 40 works well also), 2.86 primary with a +210 lb rider. I ran a 3.99 3rd pass out with a 1.364 60'. I've been faster in both incriments. It runs well on the top end also, I've been 80 mph & a 185 lb. rider went 82 mph in 300'.

im guessing thats with a bar...

no bar on the dunes..

around here there was never a track untill very recently that was even close to me to to consider going and testing the bike out. so all my "setup" was specific for the dunes around here... the track is a fun place to play with the setups.

in the first day i was at the track that just opened i went down to a 12 hauler and ripped a few 1.5 60ft times if i rember right thats with no bar and i weigh 285lbs. in the last few years the launch has seemed to be all that matters since the 4 chokes started racing around here we all went to about 200-250ft racing it seems.

Alright, I changed out to 16x44 gearing today. I am still thinking I need smaller domes to bump up my compression to be able to pull the gearing and setups you guys are describing, but I'll give it a try. I'm hoping to head out to the dunes the weekend after the 4th of july and try it out. I have 14, 15, 16 for fronts and 40, 41, 42, and 44 rear sprockets. The only tires I have for it right now are 72RO 13-paddle haulers. I probably won't be able to buy different tires for a while, so I just have to make these work as best as I can. I will post up some video of it see how it works out.

Thanks again for the help! I'll order up some new domes and try and get my compression up for here at my altitude.

When we ran the dunes flats/hill our best gearing combo for 1st gear launches was a 16/41. That was with a 72 RO 14 paddle hauler. Our bike was set-up a little different than now. Same motor/frame, the swingarm was a +8 from the current +14. I was 220-230 lbs then.

We gauged our performance off a name builder's shop bike (535 Cheetah on alky). The first time running against that shop bike we beat it 3 out of 3 times by 1 - 1 1/2 bike lengths. Next time out against the same bike we lost 3 out of 3 races by the same margin we had beat them by. The only change we had made between them races was a rear sprocket change. We had went to a 40 on the rear from the 41.
