thinkblue86
Hi guys I am just doing mods on my shee and wanted to get new carbs. I heard some where about being able to shave your stock carbs do you guys have any info or comments about that. My shee is a 2001 slight port and polish, shaved head, true and weld crank, advanced timing, t5 pipes, stage 3 clutch let me know what you think out what my best Carb would be if shaving stock ones are not a good idea. Thank you.
Dicklez
There are site sponsers who can open your carbs up. SHOULD be done on a lathe. Not sure how much you can take out of the stockers but I'm pretty sure you can at least goi to 28mm. Shouldnt have any problems with the stockers on your quad. thinkblue86
Cool thanks bro for the setup I have do you think it would make a difference if I shaved the stocks or got new ones? Or would it be a waste of money?
Dicklez
If your tryin to keep cost down, I would open them up. I was sayin that you can make the stockers work well for your mods.
Finch
id stick with stockers. unless ya feel like losing some bottom.
bansheesandrider
I have my stockers bored out to 28mm. It cost me $35 per carb and I have the advantage of being able to buy stock parts for them at any Yamaha dealer if I ever have problems while on a trip. I don't think that Keihins that cost $150 per carb would perform any better than my setup.
shanYE west
a 28 pwk is a far better carb over the stockers. and you can get them for way less then 300.00 a set. most sets go for about 150-200 on ebay. If your going to have your carbs bored.. I wouldn't go over 27.5mm
zach45
I made the switch to a pwk and they are a far superior carb. Jet changes are so simple. If you wanted 30" I have a set of oko's I would sell. They fit stock intake boots. Pm me if interested
willardwright59
ive done a few sets. straight bore to 28mm is easiest and takes less time, but ive also done a tapered bore where they start at 28mm and by the time they are into the intake, they are 30mm. works great. jordan dahl has 2 of the sets i straight bored to 28mm. They look great too. I sold both sets I got from Willard and both people like them a lot so far and they seem to pull better up top then the stock 26mm. I didn't notice a loss on the bottom end while I was jetting it for them so I wouldn't worry much about that low end loss. Jordon
