shearer custom made big bore inframes

Recommended Posts

with my shearer big bore pipes i had to butcher the stock air box, just wondering why did shearer make the silencer pipes inward, and not straight like other aftermarket pipes.does anyone make a aftermarket airbox that will pass the pipes?

The Big Bore pipes are designed for motors that are 535cc's and bigger.......What motor are you running that would breath thru an air box and still feed a motor than needs BB pipes?

I ask because I think you either need to be running better, bigger filters on your big motor....or your running Way to big of a pipe for a small motor.

even on the small bore shearers inframe you have to run pods. they will not fit with the air box. throw some pods on and call it a day. just dont ride through deep rivers with the bike. however i believe you can cut the side walls of the air box and it may work but its going to very very tight in there. you will have to use that heat wrap ( i cant remember the name of it) so it does not melt the filter. i dont think its worth it to run the air box with such a good pipe. you want your shee to breath! pods are such a nice clean setup and make jetting a breeze

i bought 2 k&n pods @60 bucks per pod.i tryed to make one fit but it was a no go.the ones i can only get are to long.seen in buddys forsale thread he had short ones.those are the ones i need.but i think if i dont get extentions to move the filters away from the carbs ill be in the same boat.or option b would be to cut and re arange the pipes so they are not in the way of pods.

and as for getting the airfilter wet, with the +4 swing arm and +4 axle, after a day of riding thay are still dry even if i accidently hit big puddles which is good.

so you might be asking why did i bother to make this thread,my air filter is starting to melt on the pipes so i was looking for advice.

Why? The SB were designed for the 421. His OOF SB were designed for a 421 on alky.

Why?? because they were the better pipe for my setup.... What makes you think that the small bores are the better pipe?? because someone said they were? Or.. its "supposed" to be better? People really need to stop thinking that "this" pipe is the best for "that" motor. Will every 421 like the BB pipes?.... probably not.

No, in case you haven't noticed....I like to test those "Common beliefs" on the dyno. What I found was that the SB pipes work very well for the 421 motors. Now if your set-up liked the BB pipe more, then that's fine. Many who like the BB's on smaller motors tend to run a lot of compression and a lot of timing. (This tricks the pipe into holding more heat and acting like a smaller pipe.)

So I was just asking a simple question. "Why?".... I was expecting an answer like "I saw lower times at the track" or "I dyno'd it and it gained ____ HP vs. the SB's" or "It felt faster"

I wasn't trying to start anything. :shrugani: I was trying to share info. I did a ton of testing on a 472-492 motor and found that with exhaust timings from 193 to as high as 202 the motor tended to make the same top HP with both SB and BB's. But the SB pipe made a stronger front side torque curve. So I was hoping you would add to the discussion by sharing the real world testing that led you to choose the BB's for your 421.

I'm not going to turn this guys thread into a novel as none of this pertains to his questions and is way off topic. So i'll make it short.. Better torque curve.
