Motul 710 vs 800. What I didnt Know.

this is from a post on a bike forum I found while looking for an answer on the differnce between Motul 710 and 800 and why my quad runs better using the 710. thought this was good info to share.

 

 

Both of these Motul oils are excellent, being Esther based the oil bonds to the metal surfaces at a molecular level, unlike a traditional oils that use the viscosity of the oil to create a film that protects the metal parts. Esther based oils have the added benefit of offering better protection the hotter the engine gets as the molecular bonding process is heat activated, which is why the are so superior.

 

So what is the difference between the two, simple, the maximum Flash Point at which they get burnt up.

 

Motul 710 has a much lower flash point than Motul 800, which makes the ideal oil if you are doing slow speed technical riding as the bike is not running in the higher RPM range for long periods resulting in lower engine combustion temps being reached. The excess oil is therefor burnt up more efficiently which prevents carbon build and excess oil been blown through the exhaust.

 

Motul 800 is made for racing as it requires higher temps directly related to higher speeds and extended high RPM, you need a oil that does not burn up to quickly in this case, to put racing into perspective a rider like Lawrence Mahony rides full taps so Motul 800 would work better for him. Another example where Motul 800 will work at its best is high speed desert racing like the Dakar.

 

Motul 710 is the better option oil for the average rider or if you do more technical riding, it's cost less to. Another example of similar Esther based oil would be Maxima's Super M vs there Formula K2.

 

Read an article on the net about 2 stroke oils that offered the above explanation, very technical but informative read - will try find it and post here.

 

You can't go wrong with either of these oils though, have used them both and the protection offered is second to none. Modern oils are amazing.
