Oregon HQ Ride

Recommended Posts

If you guys take everything to heart that is said on here then yes we are serious racers BUT that makes Zillla a major flamer it makes Mattscss a major dick head and Tyler the biggest prick in the world. You get the idea. This is a forum people talk shit that is just the way it is. I have rode dunes all over the place and I have enjoyed all of them but I know for a fact we are no more serious about our racing than people are in any other place.

Disclaimer because people get there feelers hurt. I was joking about Matt and Tyler but not about Zilla

Protip: 99% of Californian's couldn't give two butthole hairs for drag racing. We have the best dunes in the US... typically drag racing is the last thing on anyone's mind.

Really Matt? When I was at Glamis all everyone could talk about was the drags on Gecko road every night. I can see why they talked about them because they were bad ass! To say people in Cali do not care about racing is not true. Those guys were pretty serious about those races!

The majority of the videos I have seen on youtube of Glamis are of people racing at Oldsmobile Hill and gecko road, and most of those bikes are equipped with insane motors & custom drag chassis's. When you go to the Oregon dunes you don't see tons of bikes that are strictly set up for drag racing unless you go to events like sand fest, dune fest, raptor rally, etc. I know there are like tens of thousands of people who go to Glamis on Holiday weekends and that not ALL of them are into drag racing but you cant deny that drag racing isnt taken very seriously by alot of Californians.......

sandmanpnw- weren't you bitching about the turnout to the rides in Oregon?? If you expect people to travel from all over I'm sure people would need some notice in advance, not everyone lives 4 hours away and just pack up their pickup for the weekend.

I was just joking around. I know this is too short notice for a lot of people. Someone should try to setup something for next year for real.

Set something up & make a official Oregon HQ ride thread for it  July and August would probably be the best months for weather.

You're right. I've never been to glamis. I have no idea what I see there. I just watch you-tube videos and base my opinion strictly off of those... :rotflmao:

Also, hundreds of thousands of people who go to glamis on holiday weekends. Not tens of thousands. Tens of thousands of people would get lost in 118,000 acres of sand.

How many die hard Californian "drag racers" do you see on here? Maybe 3-5% of the total "drag racer" population on here? If that?

I honestly can not think of a time in my 25+ years of going to glamis, that I have seen a real RACE at the gecko drags. We are the the "drags" pretty much every evening out there. Calling it the "drags" came from an event called horsepower wars. Horsepower wars came about in the beginning years of the long travel cars, and the Northstar V8 days. That was the "strip" that horsepower wars used, and ever since then, it's been dubbed the "drags". Maybe 1 in 100 people that hit the drags are actually "racing". I don't know of a single person that goes to glamis with the distinct desire to do nothing but drag race. The fact is, Oldsmobile hill sucks serious ballsack for racing, since it's whooped out pretty much the entire hill, and has been for the last 5+ years. The gecko "drags" also are WAYYYYYY too rough for chassis bikes to even consider running. Come to think of it, I've never seen a chassis bike run the gecko drags. I have seen a few run Olds, but pretty much ALL of the drag racing that happens in California is at Dumont, and the majority of Dumont riders are not from California. Dumont get's the majority of it's visitors from Nevada and Utah.
