topwaterbait
I have coolant getting into my cylinders. I was wondering if a bad head gasket could be the only way it was coming in? Or could it come in from some other spot. Thanks

hotrodbanshee
It's either the head or the rubber plugs on the bottom of the cylinders
guns4children
My guess would be the head gasket. Its very easy to take the head off. I would say buy a new head gasket change it out torque the head to spec and have another go.
topwaterbait
Thanks for the quick response. I just rebuilt it and had a fresh head gasket on it. Thats why I was wondering if it could come from somewhere else. I have the head off now going to see if it is warped.
topwaterbait
I used a aftermarket head gasket. Do you guys think its better to go to the dealer and get one from Yamaha?
topwaterbait
when you rebuilt it... did you use sealant to seal the rubber plugs at the bottom of the cylinders? my first time rebuilding mine... I didnt use sealant on them and I had coolent in my cases. No but I dont have any coolant in the case just in the cylinders.

ClayAiken
So is a bad head gasket the only way it can get in the cylinders? Head Gasket or warped head usually.

topwaterbait
no the plugs on the bottom too but like i said if its in your cyl is in your crank side of the cases Well I just ordered a new head gasket and I will change the oil. Is that all I need to do to get the coolant out of the crank side? Do you guys think oem gaskets are better than aftermarket?
Finch
changing your oil wont help with crank.
DirtDiggler69
Hows the Powerband look? is it stained from coolant reaching it?
hotrodbanshee
Since you are pulling the heads off you might as well pull the cylinders and pull the rubber plugs out and put sealent on them and reinstall.
