RaptorDuner
I've seen them set up a test station on the road from Driftwood II to the dunes. They weren't writing tickets, just turning you back to camp but I've seen them writing tickets on the road out of Sand Dunes Frontier. Last year they had their summer help doing courtesy checks in the campground. Not recording VIN or License, just make, model, cc and exhaust brand. RC418
Then you have been lucky. I have seen them set up a test on the main trail from South Jetty to the open dunes, and check EVERYBODY that goes through. I have seen this also at Win. Bay and the Horsfall- Spinreel areas. I have even seen them use radar to enforce the 10 MPH speed limit on the access trail at Winchester Bay- my buddy got chased all the way back to camp and was given a ticket for going 35. I have seen them do courtesy sound checks and then write a ticket later if they catch you out on the dunes, so I only let them check me if I am heading home. Typically they do the sound checks on the big Holiday weekends but we have been stopped several times when it wasnt even a holiday weekend. They also set up like a road block on the south end when leaving Driftwood II campground, everyone headed out to the dunes is required to stop and get checked before proceeding out. Ive seen the same thing about the courtesy sound checks where they give tickets if they see you out in the dunes (if your over the DB limit). Better to be safe than sorry, plus it helps prevent get more riding areas shut down due to noise.
RaptorDuner
Here is the silencer with the stainless tip that I made. I had to machine the end cap out to 1.25" to receive it and I think I will use JB Weld and a set screw from the bottom to retain it. Now all I need to do is pickup some polish & orings and then I can get them on. I'll get a db reading with fresh packing before & after the tips to see if they are a waste of time. Banshee Chad
Don't see how that'll make it quieter.. but I sure hope it works for you!
RaptorDuner
It points the noise towards the sand which does a decent job of absorbing the sound and the db meter "hears" it as being quieter. Cascade Innovations has been using this trick for years on their silencers.

It's crazy about the noise checks. No one cares here, we have a spark arrestor law.. but not enforces at dunes.

Banshee Chad
All public land in Utah requires spark arrestor... Lame, they don't care so much at dunes, but I've been checked at delle, bountiful and farmington canyons, and up by soapstone. I'm modding my stock silencers for permanent attachment to cpi headers.. they sound quiet and no power change. Then I'm gonna sell my cpi stingers and polished silencers.. All FEDERAL land in the USA irequires a spark arrestor, it is aForestry Service/Dept. of Agriculture rule. But, it is not enforced in many areas where there is no chance of a forest fire, ie: sand dunes. Spark arrestor are supposed to be on the bikes in the Oregon Dunes but it is not enforced. But that is one of the reasons I quit riding at Brown's Camp as it is enforced there in the forest.
RaptorDuner
Didn't turn out too bad and the freshly packed silencers measured out at 101db. I need to get it out in the grass to to see if the tips help cause I don't think that a cement floor and a steel table will show if it helps. I'm hoping for around 96db but I think that is optimistic

And did ya have a staring db level at all before you repacked and did the turn down ?
thomas h.
For my Yfz 426 I need to make it quieter too so I took out the core and found washers that fit inside sung. Then cut the washers in half and welded them to the core staggered. Five made a difference in noise big time.

Law Enforcement was almost nonexistent at Florence Oregon over the July 4th Week so I never got hassled or a courtesy check. Here's a picture of them on the Banshee all put together. RaptorDuner
While I was at Discovery Bay CG @ Winchester Bay OR, I had a kid about 7-8 yo search me out because when I passed their camp, he said it sounded like popcorn. LOL. On the pavement in the campground, it has a noticeable echo with an audible "pop". Big improvement on the sand but if I see law enforcement I shift up a couple gears and lug it.
