camatv
ok so i'm new to track racing and have been running the local track that just opened here in eldorado. i'm actually have quite a bit of fun. my 60's have went from 2.0 to a best of about a 1.500 this was about the same 60 a super light bike with a bar adn lil rider was getting.. the MPH at this particular track has always been low ( at least to me) i'm tuning 4.4 to 4.3's at around 69-72mph.. i dont really know what else to base that off of . the track owners are running 4.2 and about 72 to 74 mph and hitting 1.5 to 1.7 60's.. the track is a dirt sand mix and they take great care of it. all i have ever really changed so far was the tire first TNT there it hooked so hard i had issues with the 14's so went to a 12 hauler much better adn mph got to a best of 72mph. 60's wenrt bad either.. next TNT track was dry and we were running straight into a 15-20mph wind i was able to go back to the 14 stagger's and times were nearly identical. i have a +10 arm i can put on and build a wheelie bar. BUT i like running the bike like this because the bar never catches any ruts or tossed the bike side to side. its amazing to me how much th etimes can vary from pass to pass and not change anything. i read that 60ft times sucks thread down there and this came to mind felt i should start a new thread with my personal experiences. this track is exactilly an hour from my house and its much more fun for me to go to instead of the local riding place.. dajogejr
You'll get more consistent times with a bar. With a smaller motor (judging by your times alone Cam) You can probably ride it out...but wheelies hurt time, as does letting out. Don't get hung up on MPH. 60 and ET wins races. MPH is about right...honestly. Lower 4's and upper 60's lower 70s is about right. You're a bigger guy like me, you wont' need quite as much paddle and arm...there has to be a balance there. I always run an arm. Don't always need it...but when you lift you lose. Which motor is this Cam?
BigRed350x
This is interesting reading all this track info. I wish we had a track close to us, it would be fun to give it a try. daj, are you getting back into the banshee stuff?
dajogejr
Depends on if Kevin will build me a motor again.... Yes, next year is my plan. Wheelman Chassis and HJR motor, just not sure which one yet. I'm sure some kind of JD Customs metal work and Mr. Bling polish to top it all off. I'm lucky to have not only good companies that I can go to, but to call them old friends as well.

Right now I have a 10mil cub that Tim @ Titan redid after Jim @ Passion ported it. Its amazing how much different the power is from a stock cub. Check out some of the frames stellar is turning out now, he has some awesome stuff. Brandon @ wildcard is running a hybrid single a-arm frame that looks awesome. - Jared

BigRed350x
I'm not saying anything........I'm just quietly sitting here peeing myself. LOL I believe this engine ran good back when it only had jim's porting on it (it didn't belong to me back then) and when that owner sold it to someone else, the 2nd owner ONLY deal with Tim @ Titan. He had tim go through it and port it to his specs and had tim cut some domes specific to the porting it had. I honestly couldn't tell you if Tim went through and completely re-did everything, or if he just touched it up and did the assembly. I will say that the cylidners do have some distinct characteristics of jim's porting (HUGE exhaust area). It is definitely one of the hardest running engines I have ever personally owned. I think the only thing that might have ran better than this setup was the 612cc twister I got from Firehead. This cub is almost too much engine for what we have to ride on around here, but I enjoy it. - Jared

camatv
didnt know i asked about a cub motor?? ha ha BUT anyways. this is my 6 year old 535. in the old LSR chassis. and yes i'm 280 lbs. the motor had a rip in the intake and if i posted pics of the cylinders people would wonder how it even still runs... this was the last race/ run for it its getting pulled and split and new crank, pistons, replate and all other loose as hell bearings and wobbly stuff inside is getting replaced.. so in the mean time i will just use the 485 in this chassis. i think that will be a good base engine to "track race" with also. rember i'm just doing this for FUN!!! i plan on putting a +10 arm i have on the chassis and pulling more weight off of it if i can. also getting a bar built and put on also. then i plan on using a launch limiter and starting to "tune" my clutch stuff.. anytime i had to let off the times would drop at least .5 most times i just leaned up and stayed in it. those were the faster of the passes i made. it was also about 98* and hotter when we raced! when it would wheelie 250ft of the track the other guys there didnt believe i would stay in it that far. heck was just riding for me Ha..
