maskmanLS6
Well........i have my cases split and was panning on installing my 4 mil crank tomorrow. After seeing this thread i went and checked the crank and it has 29L/R on the rod. Not sure what the hell to do now. I would be super pissed if that happens to my motor after all the money i have spent in parts up to this point. No doubt,,I saw this post and got worried about my vitos crank and posted a topic on them. I hope i get positive opinions about them after spending the cash to build my engine. I dont know enough about the different rods to judge them but so far ive heard and read nothing but bad about the 29LR series rods.

You know what to do, It's obvious and you will be down and waiting another two weeks and spending more money.
94BANSHEE
So except going billet, the best bet would be to go with a Hot Rod welded crank? or Vitos?

locogato11283
So except going billet, the best bet would be to go with a Hot Rod welded crank? or Vitos? Billet is no better than forged. They will break just the same. I've had both break and the billet on hardly any run time.

I've had both break and the billet on hardly any run time. i think you are right loco, i think the bigger problem is what is actually breaking these cranks and not the cranks themselves, im def not saying that the bronze rods are not junk because they are getting a terrible rep from this thread. I've had both break and the billet on hardly any run time. trust me...the rods on these cranks are no good!!!!! these rods break for no reason.......one snapped while idling!!! and the bearing on it did not seize up either i have a brandnew one here i'LL trade you for your used billet,if you think there no better

In other words.. put them junk rods on a billet crank.. and it will still be junk.
mike0chek
new discovery for the peeps following this, the inner crank bearing on the side that the rod broke is shot. not sure if it was before the explosion or from the explosion. maskmanLS6
new discovery for the peeps following this, the inner crank bearing on the side that the rod broke is shot. not sure if it was before the explosion or from the explosion. Hard to tell,,is the bottom of the rod blue or really dark compared to the other side? If so then the rod may have seized and broke due to bearing failure. If not then the bearing probably got damaged when the rod was trashing your engine.
mike0chek
they appear to not have any heat discoloring, if anything the good rod looks hotter
maskmanLS6
they appear to not have any heat discoloring, if anything the good rod looks hotter The rod probably just failed due to stress. If the bearing was going bad and tightening up the rod would have gotten hot and would show some signs of heat. Those rods have a bad reputation for stress failures. I hope you have better luck with your next set up,,That really sux to have your whole engine wiped out by a 40 dollar rod. If your going with a 4mil ide try a vitos crank, they seem to be a good piece and are affordable.
