Jbeck103 Posted May 17, 2012 Report Share Posted May 17, 2012 The bar that comes out of the transmission that the shift lever is splined onto the seal is leaking on my quad leaving spots when I park it. My question is whether I can do the seal without taking apart the who motor or if I can just do it as is??? Any questions or comments would be greatly appreciated!!! erickson483 Posted May 17, 2012 Report Share Posted May 17, 2012 You don't need to split the cases. The seal is only in the bottom case and is right on the outside of it too. It might not be that easy though. I've never had to do it, so someone else might be able to chime in too. You either need to get the seal out with the shaft still in place, or remove the clutch basket and pull the shift shaft out to have easy access to the seal. 2004LEBanshee Posted May 17, 2012 Report Share Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) No need to split the case. 1. Remove shifter lever. 2. Remove clutch cover. 3. Pull out shift shaft from clutch side. 4. Use flat head screw driver to pop out seal. 5. Grease new seal with water proof grease. 6. Insert shfit shaft. 7. Install clutch cover and shifter lever. *** you may be able to do it with out pulling the clutch cover and pulling the shift shaft but It might be a pain to get the seal in and out good.** Edited May 17, 2012 by 2004LEBanshee Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Put a screw into the old seal, grab the screw with pliers, and pull it out. Find the right sized deep well socket, and drive the new seal in. Dunes98 Posted May 17, 2012 Report Share Posted May 17, 2012 All you have to do is pull the shifter lever off and then you can just use a flat head screw driver to pop out the seal. Clean the surface, coat the outside of the seal with a sealer as stated above, and tap the new one back in. I used a long 3/8 extention to tap mine back in.
