Just picked up a 2006 SE

Hello there, new to the forum but have been trolling for years! :-)

I sold my '04 YFZ450 and picked up another Banshee. I missed my old 2000 Banshee that I had before the 450.

This one has been sitting up a while and needs a little TLC. It's stock which I seems to be a rare find these days!

It has been quite a few years since I had a Banshee and I'm trying to remember what all I should do to freshen it up. Not sure how old the fuel was that was in it. I mixed up a fresh batch yesterday because it was almost bone dry. It does backfire a few times here and there and is also a little difficult to start and also doesn't idle well.

Regarding jetting: The bike was purchased from a dealership in CA and crate shipped to the original owner in Louisiana (where I am). Nothing has been touched on this bike from the filter towards the engine. My last Banshee came with Toomeys so I have never had one with stock exhaust. I wanted to verify what stock jetting/needle should be since I think I need to clean the carbs and it would be nice to verify while I am in there. I also was not sure if elevation matters at all with a stock bike when it comes to jetting..

So here's my list:

  •
  • 1. check/replace plugs (gap between .028" and .031" right?)
  • 2. crank case oil - any recommendations one what to use?
  • 3. grease fittings - figured I may as well, it has been sitting up for about 2 years
  • 4. air filter (inspect/clean/replace) - the foam around it is flaking
  • 5. lube cable housings - another nice touch just because
  • 6. clean/wax chain - just because
  • 7. clean carbs - not sure how long fuel sat in them.

Did I miss anything?

Also, what's a good pre-mix oil these days? I still had some Maxima Castor 927 left over from way back.

Thanks!

-stephen

Stock jetting is 200 mains, 25 pilots and needle on middle clip. Airbox lid on with snorkel. First thing I would do mod wise is get pipes on here. Get pods or run airbox with no lid and k&n air filter. Jet according to mods. Also get an adjustable timing plate and put it at +4. You'll be good for awhile with that setup. Once your top end goes go 4 mil and port it. Or higher depending on what you want to do with the bike and the area you ride in

Thanks for the input.

I got my hands on a compression tester and am going to test it this weekend. It's been so long I can't remember what PSI numbers I should be looking for. Anyone have that info handy?

As far as plans go, I used to have Toomey T5's on my last one and I liked those. I may get another set or get the TR6 but I have not really researched the difference.

We do mainly trail riding and there is a big gravel pit in Mississippi that we like to go to also. We are pretty much at sea level and mostly ride in 90 degree weather.

I'm not trying to go fast in a straight line, I just goof around in the woods, etc. and love the thrill of the banshee, that's why i got rid of the 450!

Thanks!

120ish on a new build. Anything 95 or lower get a new top end. Pipe depends on what you want the bike to do. I had fmf fattys on mine and it great in the trials. I recently just got shearer's . A lil less on bottom but a lot more on top with the shearers. You have to pick and choose on riding style. I personally like the more faster pase trials where I go wot a lot so I wanted more top end pull. Going 4 mil and porting it will add a lot more power everywhere. You'll have better low end with a 4 mil over stock stroke
