PRIMETIME
First of all I'd like to say thanks for the help I've recieved on this website! I'm new to drag racing and keep running into different questions that no one seems to have the answer to except on this forum. I was wondering if someone could help me by telling me the difference between Methanol and Ethanol? Does a bike have to be set up for one or the other or can you use either one? Once again I appreciate all of the feed back

Once again I appreciate all of the feed back You have to be set up for each one differently, they are not interchangeable. You could run E85 on a methanol bike, but it will run like dog shit. You CANNOT run methanol on an E85 bike, it will be really lean and melt you down. The E85 is not very consistent from pump to pump, so most people don't run it. Its a pain in the butt. Methanol is the way to go. - Jared
JayCLL
I wouldn't completely rule out E-85. RDZ tested E-85 and it make 9.6 horsepower over racing fuel, you just have to have the proper jetting kit which I think he is selling now. I'm going to try it on my wifes bike when that is complete..... Just my 2 cents
Boo_69
The other difference is one is a petroleum product. The other is corn. I believe methanol burns cooler and cleaner than ethonal. Methanol won't eat gaskets up either. At least I'm pretty sure.
chevota84
Methanol is, for the most part, distilled from wood and ethanol is distilled from corn. You don't need a jetting "kit" you just need to tune it differently. You will burn near double the amount of methanol and about 10% less than that for e85, compared to race gas.
