How would you run your airbox?

Recommended Posts

My banshee is an 02 totally stock right now...told myself that after one more ride i would order pipes(one more ride happened yesterday).

My question is i've read that if I keep the snorkle that i'm not going to see much gains power wise...i have a uni filter in there right now and its got the snorkle and everything.

Now i primarily ride in the dunes...florence oregon and stuff like that. I went to browns camp(in the woods with trails and such) and that was alright...definitely got it a little muddy.

I'm just paranoid about getting shit into the airbox if i run no snorkle or just no lid at all...my question is what are your guys experience it running it in these different methods? And btw i'm not taking the airbox off and running pods that just not gonna happen.

For the dunes, we all have pod filters with outerwears. Are you planning on doing anything to the motor anytime or just putting pipes on it?

Honestly i think i just plan on putting pipes on it. If i ever did anything to the motor it wouldnt be until it needed a rebuild/top end or something.

I ride sand exclusively( took my Banshee to Brown's Camp 3 times twenty one years ago). I have been running a Toomey 2:1 filter with the K&N element and an Outerwear for over 20 years and have never had a problem with water or dirt. If you are really worried about it, get a Pro Flow plate and an Outerwear for your filter and do away with the lid on the box. But, your still goona have to fight the box when you work on your carbs.

take airbox and toss it on the trash. put on 2 pods with outerwears and move on..

X2 :headbang: I start by running all my air boxes out to the dumpster.

Quickly followed by the TORS system

The Key assembly

The stock design carrier/swingarm

And the dumbo ear front fenders

i am the same way.. worried as a mofo about ingesting debree in my motor.. i ride in northeast pa in the coal region!! very very very dirty!! i used to run an air box with no lid, pro flow adaperter and a k&n filter with outerwears. the only time i ever had a problem was because of my own dumb fault..did not have the filter sealed to the adaper 100%!! other then that, never any issues!! but since i did a motor overhaul and bigger carbs i moved to k&n pods with outerwear! im just a little more careful with creek crossings and mud holes that cant be avoided!! i could never understand what the big deal was about pods until i tried them...wow big time more power.. especially on a modded motor with bigger carbs.. also pods free up tons of space making tuning and working on the quad alot easier!! but imo if your just running a stock shee with pipes and maybe other small bolt ons you will be good to go with the stock airbox with NO LID!! the biggest thing to be sure with any appplication you choose is to make sure all of your intake connections are properly sealed!!!!

Looks like i'll try running no lid...does anybody have a link to an outerwear that will fit over a uni filter?

Mines stock besides the pipes. I did do away with tors too.

I run air box with no lid in summer, got a pro flo adapter plate with a k&n with an outerwear.. never had a prob in 5 yrs. First year I had it stock, paranoid to take lid off even after pipes. No probs, but when it cools down (usually same time it starts getting muddy and wet, I put lid on. And I don't jet down. No snorkle tho!

k&n air filters suck in alot of air! before i went 4 mil and dune port. i had pipes, K&n in stock air box with lid off with 270 mains in stock carbs in the summer and the bike ran great (1000 ft above seal level. once it dropped down to the 40's-50si had to go up 3 sizes on the jets and put the lid back on for it to run clean. perfect example right here. trying to get my 4 mil dune port to run clean with lid off. i had to go to 370s with the lid off. with a prodesign air filter and lid off 350s should of been fine. 340s were almost perfect with a seat of the pants feel. very slight misssfire/backfire at the top. keep the lid for special occasions. very muddy and very wet conditions. snorkel is only for when you want to sink your motor in water..... :rotflmao:
