Thanks Brad, it's been a long time coming but PRE is my only focus now. I can now devote all my time to my builds and my first love, R&D. Over the last few years my backlogs have become overwhelming, and my turn around times have been less than desired. The day job ,and 50+ hours a week on builds, was about to kill me...Im too old for that much load. SO, screw the day job, Im finnally doing what I do best ....fulltime. After I get over the hump in backload, Ill be much faster on return times, Ill be able to further develop the latest in technology, along with new products for the serious Banshee gear head. Thanks for everyones support over the years, my best is yet to come....Jim

i have put together tons of motors and seen many diffrent port jobs and tuned many buliders cylinder set ups,ported cylinders myself.Jeff from fast and jim from passion have thee best hand work par none and run harder than most.The shit takes time and good things come to those who wait,ive talked to jim extensively on porting software and engine peramiters many times he is a very knowledgable guy .Jeff from fast is my go to guy on many projects and i still cant find a stock cylinder that can beat my lil 4mill Fast motor.

Why do you not just go look in the dyno room here and see which of the site sponsors are building the best hp and then call them and talk with a few of them and then go woth the one you like???? Just a thought :confused:

 

I would never look at a dyno room, sheet or claim to buy a motor.

I'd look at a track. You can make the same motor say 80 HP on one run and 120 on the next.

 

That being said...Jim has a great following and solid customer service from those that run his motors.

 

Don't go with the cheapest...you get what you pay for. Call the site sponsors. Ask them about their results, ask them where/what they run and race and THEN ask about their turn around time.

Some are better than others with turn around time...so make sure that's clear to you and your builder of choice. if you're thinking 1 month and your builder is backed up 4 months...that's a problem.

Also...find out where you plan to race...see what they run, who they use..and get their experience.

 

This site has plenty of good builders....just ask questions...and then ask more.

Dyno's are good if your honest about it and want to see what the baseline hp that your machine is making. Dyno's don't win race but will help get your tune close

 

HP doesn't give you ETs. ETs give you ETs. There are too many variances, dyno to dyno, tuner to tuner.

Now...can they get a setup that is totally out of whack a lot closer to a good state of tune, absolutely.

 

I've seen 100HP beat 120HP machines every time. So baseline HP really means nothing.

 

There's a little 399 motor out there putting the hurt on much, much bigger motors and I'm sure it's no where near the HP of bigger bikes.

The guy has a TON of time in the tuning of every little thing and chassis setup.

 

I agree...if your tune is WAY off, it will help you get a better starting point at the track. But a dyno does not account for gearing, surface make up, air pressure, (paddles or slicks, etc.)

It is good for getting one part of the equation close...I'll give you that. But I'd throw that dyno honesty and baseline HP in the trash...:)

I agree with you 100% Dave. I'm just saying if your curious to what kind of power your making go for it. You can get your tune close with them, but you got to get every thing else right at the track, like gearing, tires etc like u said

I hate dynos, mainly for the fact they give a very false sense of security. More hearts have been broken than asses busted at the track because of Dynos.

 

There's a dyno queen in Michigan who has posted vids on other sites like he's a guru of some kind.

Only to have his motor blow up after a 1/2 hour at our dunes because it was so lean/out of tune to make a number.

 

Anyone in MI knows what my motor and setup used to do. And I'll be the first to admit I'm lazy when it comes to my own stuff. There were plenty of times at the track I'd have a bike geared for me @ 250lbs plus and let friends ride it that are 150 to 170 lbs. Common sense would say re-gear, but I was too lazy. I tune the bike for me... My bike ran good when I owned it.

 

Now Chris..Wheelmanslim owns my old HJR motor now. HE will tune everything on it to a T. Clutch, fuel, chassis, etc. And I KNOW it'll run faster and better than when I ever had it.

 

So...I guess back to my point. The Dyno queen has called me out, asked me if I'm going to build a bike this year, etc. But I've yet to see a time slip from a bike of his. Only dune videos on off weekends

 

Yet...he's the dyno man.

 

I will not tell you I had the fasted bike around here for a 10 mil cub. I will tell you without any hesitation, I had one of the top 10% 10 mil cubs around and it ran good consistently.

Anyone on this board or from the track would have a hard time arguing that point.

 

So...in closing, my point was I never hit my 10 mil cub on a dyno. I used my own, albeit lazy, tuning skills and it did well...:)

 

Dynos are like riding fat chicks. Great when you're alone...but it could be embarrassing for more reasons than not. :)

That 399 is making only 99hp on dyno! It blows away way bigger motors! Its all about complete set up! Sooner everyone figures this out the better off they will be!

I am thinking about taking a unported 421 cub and seeing what we can get out of it. I think set up with the complete package will surprise most!

Will do! Imo the most work is in the clutch. I only part that going to be special is the Titan racing domes. The clutch and weigh savings is were that 399 leaves others in the dust! But one other thing to know is he dose have his own dyno but from what I understand he tunes his clutch on it.
