Strm Trpr
Hey Guys, I have a 2002 Banshee w/Toomey T5's. I have acquired a few mods over the last year or so and I'd like to install them for this years duning season. I'd like to add these mods: Head Modified <--- The squish band is re-cut and the head is milled to slightly increase compression. V-Force 3 Reed Cages <--- Received as a Christmas gift. Stock Carbs TORS Eliminated, Toomey Needles on 4th groove from top, 280 main jets and #25 pilots. K&N Filters w/Outer Wears Chariot Performance Billet Intakes w/out built-in cross-over <--- I have a Carb Sync Tool, so I should be good to run w/out the cross-over right? Adjustable Timing Plate <--- Can I advance timing +4*? Will the stock non-welded crankshaft hold up to these mods? I do have access to Union 76's 100 octane racing gasoline. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance,
Surfrjag
sounds like you got it... if you dont know how much that head was milled you might want to check squish and compression.

FrankieSquid
the crank can hold up, but it can also come apart. i would suggest getting it welded for peace of mind. I would agree. I always like to think ahead. Even though your plans won't require you to weld the crank, at least it will be done so if one day you want to jump into more serious hp making mods your crank will be able to handle it. Like said before, you will have the peice of mind and insurance that nothing comes apart.
Strm Trpr
I agree with you guys too. How hard is it to tear down and reassemble a Banshee motor? Is it something I can do in my garage with ordinary tools? There aren't any special assembly tricks or anything like that is there? Should I box the whole thing up and send it off to a site sponsor? Strm Trpr
I have both air tools and a fly wheel puller that I bought back in 92 when I had problems with my LT250R's Stator, man what a POS that bike was. So riddle me this, what's the difference between an 02 motor and an 87 motor?

And the only thing that changed was the plug style. And a arm and j arm.
Strm Trpr
Sweet, so the only thing I need to do is install the built 87 motor with the 02 Stator and rock and roll? Should I have the cases port matched? Are there any Piston Mods I should have done? Should I have any transmission work done, if so what should I have done? Any bearings I should replace? The flywheel puller I have threads into the flywheel and then the center threads in and pushes the flywheel off the crankshaft, so maybe I bought it for my Banshee. Yes you CAN have the case port matched. Just use the right stator and plug and you'll be fine. No piston mods, you can get the vitos super stock. I think those are cut on the exhaust side. You can get the trans cut, and the shift star/ shaft. That all helps the bike shift way smooth. GET THE CRANK WELDED. No sense in doing all this work this to not. It's one of the best insurance policies for the engine. Are you getting any porting done? And a pancake bea ring. I'm sure I missed somethings, but the possibilities are endless. Just know this cost money. You get what you pay for.
Strm Trpr
I plan on having the crankshaft trued and welded. I checked that bottom-end walk through out and after reading through that, I believe I'm more than capable of tearing down and reassembling a Banshee motor. I did a complete tear down of the frame resto to my 87 back in 95 and she still runs very strong for stock motor with over 60hrs on the clock. When she's cold she's pretty loose and while you're kicking it, you're wondering if she'll ever start, but she always does. When she's hot she'll fire on the first kick almost 99% of the time. My 87 has a fresh pancake bearing, new FAST modded shift shaft, eccentric stud and lock washer and brand new FAST clutch. All this has maybe 4hrs worth of ride time on it. Hence the 87 is a prime candidate for a rebuild/motor swap. Edited March 27, 2012 by Strm Trpr

sheerider11
Thanks for the tips sheerider11. How you like that HJR Hardcore MX Port? I'm torn between that a HJR Dune Port. I love it. I do wish I went with a dune/play port this way I had more to use. But the first time I rode it from stock, I almost crapped and couldn't stop smiling. Any port work you get done you will be happy with
