e-85 mikuni carbs

steady

Recommended Posts

I just got a bike that is setup for he says e-85. It has 34mm mikuni or i think there 34's with powerjets built in. It has 18cc with heavy port job. He had just got the bike on a trade deal, and really didnt know much about the fuel situation. Kept saying just put it back on alky, because he had a hard time find e-85. My question is can i just interchange between alky and e-85? do i need to run the fuel out completely every time out of the carbs and tank? My other bike is on race gas so this is completely new to me. what about to switch back, do i just take the powerjet out, rejet, and put 19 or 20cc domes in to run race gas? sorry for all the questions,

I love me some e-85, I run it in my 450r and it makes very good power at a cheap price. Jetting typically will increase anywhere from 20-30% from race gas being that e85 makes about 75% of the btu's that gas does and alky I thought was somewhere in the 60's. So no you wont be able to just interchange between alky and e-85 because alky requires an even higher increase. To switch back to race gas I personally see no reason to remove the power jets (those look to be thunder power jets, which are pretty expensive) just rejet for race gas. Also there's a lot of people who do not purge their fuel system with e85 (including me) and have no problems. Jmo, hope it helps.
