Newbie with some mod questions, need advice!

Hello guys. I'm new to the forum, and new to 2 strokes as well. I have been a proud Yamaha owner all my life, I just sold my YFZ 450 which I loved very much. Just wanted to change things up a bit and try a Banshee. I found me a 2003 banshee all stock except full toomey exhaust, original owner and said it has around 70 hours on the whole thing for $2,200, still has all 4 factory tires on it! I'll try to add the picture of it. My question, is there like a procedure in which to do the best performance mods? Like the best cheapest mods to do? I'm not looking for a drag bike, but enjoy going fast. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum.

The cheapest bang for your buck is a adjustable timing plate. 2 hp throughout the curve for 30 bucks. Set it at + 4 degrees. Next mod is ported cylinders, dune/play ports - 300 - 350 bucks + gaskets. That's then its a cool head 200ish bucks w/domes, buy NOSS or Chariot - you don't have to change the cylinder studs. Get appropriate domes for your elevation, tell them you want to run pump gas. Get a TORS eliminator kit, make sure it has drill and tap - under 50, this makes everything easier. Then get a carp sync tool, such as the EMPI Vacuum tool - Awesome and makes tuning a breeze.

After those mods, its going to give you more and more power, but it will cost more. Still cheaper than a 4 stroke bang for buck.

Download the service manual from my sig if you do not have one.

Again welcome to the forum, take a look around and have some fun!

Welcome to the site and addiction. Some cheap easy mods, TORS delete, parking brake delete, timing plate, intake, changing sprockets, tires, you can do suspension, arms, axle. It all depends how far you want to take it. But those are a good place to start. Check what you have done so far. But take a look around on the site, you'll see something you like and want it. Like a nice port job and 4 mil crank.

x2 get those tors removed.

-bigger carbs

-jet kit

-cool head to keep engine temperature low

-port your stock cylinders- call hjr(herr jugs racing) or fast racing and kevin or jeff will take care of u. both have awesome service

-get some wiseco pistons

Check the dyno section, there is a post called random dyno discussion. Follow the plan listed in the first dyno posts and you'll get the most HP for the least amount of money right off the bat. Once to get your bike to that level, you'll be ready to get ported. But if you just follow that plan, your bike will beat most of the stuff you go up against, be very rideable and won't cost an arm and a leg. B)

Welcome to the site. :D

Thanks for all the help guys, sounds like I need to start doing all my research, that's what I like about these machines though. I definitely planned on intake, vforce 3 reeds, and +4 timing plate first. Like I said I don't ever race, mainly just ride in open areas and enjoy some speed. With just a few mods like those will it be just as fast or faster than my 07 YFZ 450?
