thebrittishguy
Hi I have a set of 38mm Lectrons from fast by gast that I bought off "tz racin" I believe it has a power jet or dial a jet I need help getting the correct needle for my setup please. As I’m based in South Africa I want the best chance of getting the correct needle first time rather than having to purchase multiple needles when there is only 1 Please see my setup below and recommend which needle I should get. 4mm 115 Hotrod crank trued and welded Set of Rocket R2 pipes 38 Lectrons Fast by gast with Dyna-tech FS Programmable CDI Adj timing plate set to +4 Vforce 2 Reed Valves 4mm dune port cylinders 65.5mm Pro Design Coolhead (19cc custom cut for 4mm port) Tors Removed Air box lid off Snorkel off 6000 ft above sea level If you need any other info, please don’t hesitate to ask. Any help will be much appreciated, thank you in advance. Edited March 8, 2012 by thebrittishguy
camatv
your best bet is to call PACKARD and get the needles they recommend. sometimes it necessary to get 2 sets and switch them out and then play with the settings to get it dialed in. id GUESS you'd need 3-1 xl. but i may be wrong. also with those style of pj's you need to be very careful with the screw in the top it CAN unscrew all the way and fall out (YIKES) and cause all kinda of issues. a clippard style pj cannot come out and in my opinion is a much better setup.. just a suggestion. BUT of course you'd have to send them in somewhere and have them installed,.
thebrittishguy
thanks for the reply! Lectrons in South Africa are non existent, no-one knows about them which makes support or supplies rare and difficult. (yet rare which is why i want them!) i have sent Dennis a few emails as well as the guys from FGB (sales) with no reply as yet. thanks again and i hope to get more feedback to steer me in a direction. thebrittishguy
thanks cattledog, that is very kind of you. i have had a reply from Dennis Packard, i will post it below incase it helps anyone and id also be interested to see what FBG has to say. Dennis Packard on my setup and tuning- I would recommend 4-2 needle and setting the needles at 51.8 MM. This measurement is taken from the tip of the needle to just off of the side of the brass insert on the bottom of the slide. So, in other words, you need to be on the gray colored slide material in arriving at the measurement. I don't know what kind of ajustment system you have for the power jets. If it is a fixed power jet with interchangeable Mukine pilot jets, for your altitude, I would start with a number 30. Because of your altitude (6000 ft), you will probably need to lien the needle from the 51.8 setting by approximately 1/2 turn. That means by turning the needle in the fully extended position 1/2 turn counterclockwise. Remember, the flat part of the needle always has to be facing the motor. This is achieved by pushing the needle in with your fingers and turning it to that position. In doing this, it doesn't change the tuning because the whole mechanism internally spins. all mods are in the first post above - everything i know anyway :-) will get back to you on the tire sizes. thanks all for the help, really nice to have decent people willing to lend a hand
