tngnst9
So I purchased my first quad 3 days ago. I am normally a 2 wheel kinda guy but wanted change. anyways I bought a 03 banshee and the engine is completely taken apart. The guy i bought it from said the pistons were screwed and the clutch boss. thinking this wouldnt be a hard task to put back together I bought it for pretty cheap. ONly problem is I cant find anywhere online that tells how to put it back together and the manual is just too confusing to make a list. I guess what I am asking is what should I buy to put this back together? Oils, gaskets, O rings?? Can anyone give me a list of what I should buy to get it all done that has done this before. All of the parts are there and bolts, but everything is completely stripped and cleaned. What are things that are good to replace while the engine is disassembled? Alot of questions I know but I would rather figure it out on my own than pay someone and be clueless whenever this sort of thing happens again. Any advice would be extremely appreciated. Sorry for the new guy questions, if i took it apart myself it would be alot easier to put back together but it came like this already stripped. Infamous039
Clymers manual is the Bible for Banshee owners until you get very familiar with doing it without the book. If your not confident enough to do it yourself then I suggest you pay someone to do it, because if you F*** up it will cost you. May cost you alot May cost you a little, but it will cost you. ClayAiken
Get THIS dont buy it directly from clymer because there most expensive. What Infamous said for the rest.
tngnst9
I have already purchased clymers manual. that things is just so all over the place and the pics arent clear enough to realize clearly how it goes together. If I f*** it up then I will learn and do it again. I dont want to start paying people to do stuff when i can just learn to do it myself. I was just wondering about what i should replace while i have it completely apart. Clymers manual is the Bible for Banshee owners until you get very familiar with doing it without the book. I misunderstood where it seems like its been apart for a while i would replace and gaskets and seals and make sure you oil almost everything while putting it back together. Once you actually begin to re assemble and have everything in front of you the clymer makes more sense. Your going to want to oil your tranny and make sure when you put the cases back together to seal them. Other then that you might want a new base gasket for the cylinders a new gasket for the clutch side of the motor where the cover mounts and crankcase seals. It would help us alot of you show us pictures of what you have.Your going to need more then what i said thats just a starting point. ClayAiken
//// I couldnt see the pictures too clearly yes you are going to split the cases you dont have a crank in there also i think i may of saw some shift drums. Just try to follow the clymer as best you can follow the diagrams on lining up the tranny with the half moon clips and such on the sides your going to need crank seals. From looking at what you have your going to have to talk to a builder they can give you the best explanation far better than i can and you might just have to send it to them. Its going to be hard for you because you were unable to see how anything came apart.
Motooutcastxxx
Between the Clymers and this walkthrough you shouldn't have any trouble what-so-ever.. Well, provided the crank, shift drum, shift forks, etc... are in good usable shape. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=140912

tngnst9
Here are the pics of all the major parts with detail. If anyone sees anything I need to replace or should let me know please.
Jereme6655
while you have the motor down this far.....id suggest doing some shift mods. Like taking off that shift star and modifying it (theres a few pics on here and a write up of how to do it) to allow the drum to turn a little easier when your foot jams on the shift lever. Also i'd recomend doing the shift shaft mod.....which allows the shifter to most slightly farther up when you shift.....as the banshee has a very short throw for the shifter. You would think the shoft throw would be a positive.....until your not paying attentino and try to snap the end of your foot off with a shift....i swear i thought i broke my toes when i rode my buddies (who has not moddified it yet) versus mine which i did a long time ago........made riding not fun... jlsparky7
Check out my channel, tons of vids. Shift mod, timing mod, you name it. Heres the first of a 5 part series on an engine rebuild.
