BLOODRAGE
just wondering if it was possible to get some vids posted.the straight cut gears i have sound terrible
gotta_goatsfast
Sound terrible how? Mine have a slight "whine" or "howl" from off idle to about 4000rpm but nothing that turns heads. The exhaust and intake usually overpower said whine anyway.
BLOODRAGE
mine sounds more like they are grinding.here have a listen you can really notice it at the end
BigRed350x
Check your cushions for excessive wear if your basket uses them. Are you sure your crank bearings are all in good shape? Check the idler gear for play on the trans shaft, it will growl a little bit when it starts to get worn out. - Jared
BLOODRAGE
the cushions in the clutch basket are new,the crank bearings are also new.i have the maxload and tz bearings.the straight cuts i have are used,i got em off FAST.i guess the last owner had the idler gear rub againts the big gear. if i buy new gears will it be quieter? its to the point where i dont want to be seen running the bike.tons of power just too noisey (embarrasing)

registered user
hard to tell but i didnt hear any strange noise that would be associated with the gears. but anytime you have gears like that you may experience a whine. vehicle trannsmission and transfer cases do it to some extent and a engine using gear drive timing do it pretty loud. you can hear in this video

jbooker82
Any resason why your running straight cut gears? There are plenty of high hp banshee's running around with the regular heli cut gears.
BLOODRAGE
i was told to use straight cut gears plus with my stock motor i took the fly wheel cover off and started the bike i could see the fly wheel move side to side so i figured it would be the better way to go. im really not sure how much hp my motor is putting out or if i even need straight cuts at all, might be over kill.but the last thing i want is the tz bearing to explode

The guys who swap to straight cut gears are running huge motors, or they need a different gear ratio for 1/8 or 1/4 mile asphalt drag racing. I am running a TZ bearing with helicut gears with no problems.

It should not move at all other than in a circle perfectly straight. Can you shoot video of your flywheel?
