Fender's Banshee Build

Recommended Posts

This is my first post on here, been a member of many many other forums, no Banshee though. Bear with me.

Picked up a 97 Banshee a few weeks ago and have been progressing through my list. Bought it for $1500.

Powdercoated white frame and hubs

FMF Gold pipes and silencers

Not sure if the filter is stock or not

It needed:

A cleaning

Appearance improved

Front tires

Tie rods

Ball joints

Hub

Light bulbs

Some wiring fixed (speaker wire on the headlights, yikes!)

New clamps on the silicon couplers on the exhaust

And MUCH more down the road

Here it is after it's first cleaning:

There it is by the door, getting torn apart next to my friend's and I's toys.

Next I prepped the plastic, and sprayed with Plasti-Dip. I've heard good things so we'll see how it lasts, so far it's pretty good, just one spot where it started peeling.

Cleaned again, I also fitted some LED front lights (not bright at all FTL)

And here it is with the new seat cover, tie rods, silencers re finished, and how it sits now.

I also just bought a set of almost new ITP front wheels, looking for some rear as well to start fresh and get new tires all around.

Now on the questions or comments, anything is welcome! I have some questions though.

What oil should I run in the gas? I've just been mixing the best stuff I can get at Advance Auto, and doing it 32:1.

What oil should I use on the tranny/bottom end? How often should it be changed?

Do I really need to re-jet in different temps?

Any good ball joints out there that aren't $100? Could I save my one front hub that's loose? It is color matched to the frame and I don't want to have to spray paint a new one or all the others.

The steering stem at the top can be moved back and forth ever so slightly, can I get a new bushing or bearing?

Sorry for the overload of questions, thanks guys! They'll be more progress to come.

whats the best stuff? ive been told once ya pic a oil be consistent with it. tranny 4stroke oil for atvs, or atf youll get a million answers on that i run klotz gear oil, jetting if it gets to rich will foul plugs and get shitty performance too lean and you risk burning up the motor so its pretty important. looking good btw and welcome to bhq

Rode all day today, the Banshee did great!

Couple of things:

I think my plugs were getting fouled, it started bogging down a little in low rpms, so I took them out and gave them a quick clean, fixed the problem.

Doing wheelies is quite hard with this thing, the powerband makes it hard to bring it up slowly. Also, the grab bar doesn't stop the exhaust from catching the ground, can I get a longer one?

I assume the quad is all stock except for the exhaust, has what looks like stock carbs on it. It is a little faster than my buddies Raptor, and about the same as my buddies 07 Honda 450 dirt bike.

I ordered new front wheel bearings since my one side is loose. A new clutch cable to freshen it up, and a kick start rebuild kit. I need two new couplers/ gaskets to mate the front pipes up the silencers, where could I find those for a good price?

To order from F.A.S.T. there are many different ways to find his information I am sure, but I will guide you in the right direction and you can take it from there. On the top right corner of the forums page and it's probly in many other spots as well but anyways there is a box that says "BansheeHQ Sponsors From mild to wild... They have it all." Click on this box and it will take you to the spot that displays all the site sponsors. Scroll throught the list until you find F.A.S.T. which is one of the first few if I remember correctly and click on his link. Once you are in his site have a blast and contact him.

Thanks! How do I order from that site?

You have to call our sponsors......this is not a bad thing as they can take your order and give you advice about the parts your purchasing. They will also let you pick their Braun for what is the best and what works well. I personally use Jeff at FAST Racing.

I say wack those rear fenders. They look like my old plastics when i bought my shee. Do ur self a favor go down to ur local auto parts store or whatever and get some ngk br8es plugs. Put ur spark plug wrench in ur pocket with 2 new plugs, get on the bike warm it up. Throw in ur new plugs, and do a wot run threw all gears cut it off in 6th gear and hold in clutch. Pull ur new plugs and put ur old ones back in, ride home and chop those new plugs. Post pics on what the plugs look like and me or anyone on this site will help u.

Cut the threads off the plug and look at the base ur looking at the ring. Most say u want the width of a dime and a brown color. Also dont sweat it ive learned alot in a short period of time from this website and clymers manual will also help. Just read read!! Also on the plastics look up laker plastics, they are about the best price wise. I got my plastics off a website i think kbmotorsports.com or something like that, think i paid 450.00
