Crank .....New or Used ?

I may be needing a new crank, not sure yet . My question is ,should I buy new ,or take the chance on a used one ? For the $$$$ I think I should just bite the bullet and go with a new one . Real advice only please .

I purchased a used 4mm longrod crank for a great deal a few years ago (still running it today). I just made sure to send it out to have it checked over. Hotrods did give me specs to measure, in which it check out flawlessly. I think you're better off with a quality used crank than an el-cheapo new one. Obviously the best bet for a mild stroke is a new M&M or Wiseco/Hotrods crank.

Bought my 4mil used here on the board got a very fair deal (good for the buyer and seller IMO)

Sold my stock crank to a guy on the board. Gave him a family price (75 shipped) just to help him out. Seemed like a very nice guy and needed a little help glad I could help him

So long story short ......I'd be looking for a used one

Wow , Thats awesome. I hope i can find a deal like that. I m on a tight budget , so i may be down for a while. Im still waiting on the final verdict of my crank .... I know for sure , I dont have $$$$ for a new one . I also didnt plan on a complete rebuild of my motor. I need pistons also. banghead

If you buy a used one, send it to somebody that knows what they are doing and have it inspected and then trued and welded. If yours is rebuildable, I would do that first before buying another time bomb. In my opinion, an unwelded used crank is just another one getting ready to come apart. If you lose another crank, you will be buying pistons again along with a head or domes and possibly even cylinders or cases. My point is to not halfass it and build it right the first time.
