Motooutcastxxx
I've seen it happen, or at least something very similar anyway, but it was on a KDX200.
camatv
yes it happens. is this one of the trans's you did yourself? only a few things cause this. lack of lube from bad or no oil or wrong type of oil ( like type F) lack of lube from wrong useage. and clashing gears from bad modification. sheerider11
So type F is no good? This was a bone stock trans. I did have type F in there. What happened was that I missed a shift and that was that. I only had second and neutral. So when I took the clutch cover off I couldn't see anything so I split the cases. I noticed that that selector was stuck. I finally got it pressed out and could see 2 very distinct weld marks.

J-Madd
Didn't know that was common. I've never used assembly lube (or even poured oil) on the transmission. It's in oil before you start it up, and covered in oil by the time you put a load on it. NOT saying assembly lube/pre oiling isn't ok, as I think the manual recommends it. I have heard that on a freshly put together motor, that you should pull in the clutch (with motor running) and go through all the gears to lube the pinion gears before hauling ass on it. But I rarely do that.
sheerider11
I didn't know this either. I had type F on there and I've heard allot of people recommend it. But now I don't know what to believe.
camatv
oh wow. i actually mix up a special prelube ( kinda like camshaft pre- lube) that was recomended from a honda OEM repair manual i have. i use that and prelube all the gears and gear train when they goback together. best thing i have seen i THINK is run a good motorcycle specific actual oil in the cases.. to me type F in a slipping clutch motor ( HEAT) is bad it breaks down really fast.. other thing is every time you go ride i always shift the bike through all the gears right off the trailer. like put puttin out the gate or over the entrance whatever just take 2 sec and go through all the gears you dont have to do 90 mph i usually just shift them all really quick. lube up the shafts, lube the sliders lube the metal to metal surfaces ( thanks yamaha)
edgehanger
Thats the first thing i do on a fresh build. Go through all the gears and then have at it. I've never seen a 5th gear weld though i have seen them break
