DallasGDub
The SST is a good pipe. It has a wide range of power. Unless you get into more modding, or plan on going back to 2 carbs, changing pipes would not benefit you at this point in time. The 2-1 is ok for trails and stuff, but it is limiting. Porting is where the power is at. So it all depends on what type of porting has been done. I have never heard or seen anything like that. I hope that whoever ported it, has a steadier hand than whoever etched it. How does it run? Are you wanting more power in certain areas (low, mid, high)? Worstenemy453
It seems to run good but I'm still on break in from the rebuild so I haven't cracked into. I'll wait on the exhaust and use that money on my powdercoating and suspension list
Worstenemy453
PO said a guy in Cumberland MD named Bob Slaven did the work to it. He said the cylinders are clones of Paul Turner's MX National cylinders with the head being shaved .100.
Larry's Shee
Don't see how that's possible, seems I've seen where .020 maybe .030 is max stock head can be shaved.
BigRed350x
Chop those fenders! Sure he didn't mean the cylinders are 100 over?
Worstenemy453
Well pulled compression at 90 psi today so i guess i got hosed. Im going to sleeve the cylinders and start at a 68mm bore and run wiseco pro lites that will be ceramic coated, Ill proly hit up HJR and a few others for some porting and see who i like the best, will grab a new billet head from someone, change pipes, and maybe up my single carb to a 38mm. You really need to verify that your comp gauge is working correctly. I have seen a lot of senseless rebuilds over a junk gauge. Always mic the cylinders and pistons that come out to verify what you have. As for the water pump, might I toot our horn there. We provide our max flow pump and billet drive gear to put an end to water pump issues. www.mullengineering.com Brandon Mull Engineering
Worstenemy453
My compression tester it a Matco kit just bought and used once here at our shop. This is just an excuse to make it a little better i guess.

Not trying to insult your intelligence at all, but when you did the compression check, did you hold the throttle wide open? You will get lower readings if you dont have it wfo. Also, on a stock cylinder, im fairly certain you dont want to go 68mm. You will have issues. Usually the stock cylinders should not be bored more than 66mm. Im hoping you meant that you were going to have it re sleeved and start at 64mm. 4mm bigger will not make much of a difference in displacement or power. Also, your single carb doesnt need to be much more than 35mm. Anything over that on a stock cyl is a little overkill.
Worstenemy453
I was going to do a big bore sleeve and start at 68 which would leave me like 4 over bores on the sleeve but I changed my mind. And yes I held the throttle open. No offense taken. I'm new to banshees. Josh z walked me through how to do it. I have changed my plans yet again lol
