Jonny72888
Hey guys. I have a 02 with tors removed, toomey intake, fmf gnarly pipes, and power cores. I have 27.5/290/1 1/2 turns It seems to "drop off" about 3/4 of the way up the rpm range. Is it to rich? plugs look alittle black but not bad. I ride at 1000' or less and its been about 45* out. Drivetrain. 13/42 and 22" tall tires.

Drivetrain. 13/42 and 22" tall tires. At 1000 feet, i would say your main is a little fat. is it 3/4 throttle in every gear, or just in like 5th or 6th? Your gearing and tires (paddles?) could be playing a small factor also. Are the plugs wet? Is your motor ported? Maybe drop down to 270 or 280. Hopefully some one else can chime in here and help. beez33
Gearing looks pretty good. I was thinking it should be a 310 main.
dcalsv02
Gearing looks pretty good. I was thinking it should be a 310 main. black plugs and high altitude (thinner air) and you think he needs more fuel? His plugs would be white if he was lean. Jonny72888
Thanks guys for getting back to me It starts to happen in 4th. 1st you cant really hammer it unless you want to flip over! The tires are 22x11 holeshots or 22x12 bear claws I bought the bike with the exhaust and it had stock jetting and would over heat on long tight trail rides so I went up to the 27.5 jet and it does not over heat now. so I went up to a 290 main because thats all my local shop had instock. I now have a 280 and a 300 so I could try richer or leaner. I was just looking for some help in which way to go. The plugs are wet. Bike is all stock other than what I listed. I think the black is from my oil mixture. im running 40:1 full synthetic with 93. I get oil dripping out of the exhaust, more on the right than left. Both plugs look the same. I never foul plugs and the bike starts 2nd kick everytime. (if that matters) Edited February 15, 2012 by Jonny72888
beez33
Sorry. I didn't see where he said his plugs were black. Ya lean it out. At 40:1 it shouldn't be dripping oil out the exhaust very much unless you are rich.
Jonny72888
So should I back out the screw 1/2 a turn or put in a 280 jet?
dcalsv02
I think with your gearing, mods, engine work, tires, and jetting you may have too much tire which could be limiting your top end in higher gears. It happens. I would lean the main jet out and see how it goes. I would leave the screw where it is for now. Grab a lot of extra plugs and be ready to do some plug chops. Jonny72888
I thought with the gearing and tires I have I should have a little more low end then a stock bike. I did a plug chop. Im just trying to figure out how to upload pictures to the site from my phone.

Jonny72888
The plug in the picture have about 2 hours of run time of varied riding. Im not sure if you can tell anything from this plug or not. This is what the old plug looks like. Im going to try and do a "real" plug chop today. I dont have alot of open spots to really try and top it out near me. Edited February 15, 2012 by Jonny72888
Larry's Shee
Plugs don't look bad for two hours riding. You're saying tha if say you're rolling along say 2nd gear, stab throttle and about 7,000 rpm it gets flat spot?
Jonny72888
Not in 2nd. Slightly in 3ed but more so in 4th and so on.
Jonny72888
it acts like there is no power band i guess you could say.
Larry's Shee
Try cleaning carbs good, completly dissassembleing them. Air filter clean? Does it do it with new plugs? Ohm plug caps and coil seperate. Set float level. Clean petcock and tank. A flat bogg is lack of fuel, a blubber is too much. What pipes do you have? Any porting? So this problem is at certain rpm at WOT? Or is it at certain throttle opening? Edited February 18, 2012 by Larry's Shee
