ticktock
I hate when people say ride it like you stole it crap. It is a mechanical object. The rings are new. The piston is new. You should do heat cycles. Start it, allow it to warm up. Take it for a ride 0-1/4 putting around and then shut it off and allow the engine to cool completely. Do this a total of 4 times. Adding 1/4 throttle each time. After you have completed the 4ish heat cycles ride it like normal for atleast a tank of gas and then consider it broke in. I have done this many times and my motors last many hours. My 250r has a ton of hours on the piston and cylinder and still within spec. Maybe 400hrs? It is still the original piston and rings from factory build in 1987. Everyone's way of breaking in is the best. It mimics how you pack your parachute. As long as it opens and everything works correctly you can pack it how you want. But there are a few specific things that you should do to keep it working correctly. Extra oil is not exactually the right thing to do. Putting more oil in your fuel changes jetting and if you are jetted for 40:1 (a pint to 5 gal) then 20:1 will lean out your fuel mixture causing less fuel and can damage the motor. Keep the same mixture you are jetted for is key. Adam
dcalsv02
Ride it like you stole it, but first you need to break it in like you own it and paid your hard earned dollars on it. Just like tick tock said, heat cycles with varied throttle positions. Never keeping it at the same position for too long. Also COMPLETELY cooling it down before the next cycle. And dont forget, vegetable oil in the trans and olive oil in the bottom end (that extra virgin shit is for pussies)

miikey37
just picked up a basket case honda 480r thinking this might be my next project. Unless i decide to part it out because parts for it are really expensive. One of my buddies is a fabricator and wants to put the motor in a 400ex chassis?? well see where this ends up

flyRTby
This thread only needed one good response. Idk what's with the hq lately. But a lot of people seem to think they are fuxking comedians and give out false Info. Better yet, some of you ass holes take time to reply to some very simple q's by saying "use the search button". Realize the search button is turning into a piece of shit because of threads like this. "Use olive oil". "beat it like a retarted step child". It just seems like those of you who obviously know everything. Would rather give someone the run around rather than just answering the question right the first time. The guy that asked the question got the answer he was looking for dipshit. If someone was searching "olive oil" on this site, they are on the wrong site. Clearly the guy knows not to put olive oil in his motor. Do you? grow some thicker skin and learn how to take a joke, or gtfo.
