sstaton1983
Last summer i put a banshee together for my wife, fresh top end, coolhead with 21cc domes and some t4 pipes,v force 2 with stock carbs and air box.it was always a pain to start. When it was cold i would have to push start it.Once it was warmed up it would start on first kick, and ran great the compression was 130 psi on both sides, carbs synched and jetted.I took over the bike so i pulled it apart(i needed more then 40hp) i inspected the top end wich looked perfect. The crank was seperating so i replaced the crank, put in all new seals, ported cylinders, put in 18cc domes, and 28mm carbs with slip ons, and grr pipes.IT STILL DOES THE EXACT SAME THING,HARD TO START WHEN COLD,IT WILL START ON FIRST KICK WHEN WARM..ALTHOUGH IT DOES HAVE A SUBSTANTIAL GAIN IN POWER.ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE APPRECIATED. fastbanshee8
We need more info. Current jetting, current temps, and elevation, in order to help.
Jereme6655
Have you tried going up 1-2 sizes on the pilot jet? Sounds like it may be a little lean on the pilot as you say its hard to start....usually that is a symptom of it...also with the dropping temperatures the jetting becomes leaner making the bikes harder to start. sstaton1983
elevation is around 800ft.my stockers had a 350 main and 25 pilot.the 28s im using now have 160 mains and ill have to check the pilots i cant remember.i havnt tried to start it since the weather cooled back down. i ran a total of 15 minuits so far and it was 60ish out.now its back down to 30s and 40s.as soon as it warms up ill be able to run it and go from there. Jereme6655
Aftermarket pipes like larger pilots.....otherwise they are a bitch ti start. Hence why you say it was hard to do cold starts on it with aftermarket pipes and 25 pilots......try going up a size or two on the pilots.....that may be the problem your having with those 28s also
sstaton1983
i got time to check what pilots im running.45pilots and 150 mains. i started it and rode it inside at work today we pulled it with a golf cart lol..it doesnt like to idle very well,it idles up and down so i cant set it.im pretty sure its way to lean at idle to 1/4 throttle.im gonna try 50s and see what happens. ticktock
One of the problems over looked is the pickup gap. Set this to 20 thousandths. The second thing is air leaks between the carb and cylinder. When the motor is cold the fuel atomizes differently and air leaks can play a role in hard starting. Leak down, pilots and pickup gap are where I would start. Adam
bluebanshee98
my shee was very hard to start in cold weather. once started it would start first kick. make sure the cross over tube between the 2 carbs is connected if you have stock carbs. also when you pull the choke out make sure you pull it out as far as it can go and hold it out with your left hand fingers and kick. my neighbor had the same problem. i did the choke pull like i said before it and started 2-3rd kick. i know it sounds stupid but check those 2 things. i noticed my choke didnt fully function when i pulled it out and let it stay in place. usually went back in after a kick or 2. same thing with my neighbors shee.
