Shee will start with my hand

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone it's me again. I found out the old girl was gettin weak last year before I put it up for winter. I have prolly started it three times since winter. Last time I could push the kick starter with my hand to start it I think she is on original bore and never been touched. Anyway who is a reputable site sponser that can do my bore and sell me some new wiscos at a descent price but top quality work. (and I will check it before assembly)? I'm in Mississippi so I will have to ship them unless there's someone local which I'm sure there's not. Hook me up ! Thanks in advance

It's all preference. I went with HJR. He has the best turn around time. Send him your jugs and he'll bore them, and send you a fresh top end kit. Might as well have him port them for you to.

Also why would you have to check it? He wouldn't be a site sponsor and own a business doing this if he bored stuff out of spec and built bad engines.

I it starts wth your hand pushing down on it then you've got an awesome problem. These engines rarely can be started by hand.....even if they're on fresh rebuilds. Mostly they get HARDER to start if the compression falls because the motor needs to be spun that much faster to get it to start. Check the compression WITH A GAUGE.....then report back...

I agree, my last 350 on pump gas I could start by hand as well. It was at about 155-160 static psi compression. Just because it doesn't kick over hard doesn't mean you have low compression. My 4 mil with 185 static psi compression I cannot start by hand but I still can roll the kicker through by hand and it starts very easily.

As far as checking cyl to piston clearences, I double check everything all the time. The site sponsors are great and Kevin at HJR does top knotch work, one ot the reasons he is a great site sponsor. However, each of these guys are just that, regular guys. Everyone is good at something but that doesn't mean that none of us are exempt from making a mistake, even doing what we are good at. It never hurts to double check and if something isn't right, it is much easier to correct and even Kevin, Jeff, Andy, however it may be would be a lot happier if you called and said "Hey man, I think something here isn't right...." rather than calling or posting and saying "what the hell man, I just put this together and ring got hung in the exhaust port.....". Just my 2 cents.

My right side is weak can't remember how low I wanna say it took forever to build 80 psi with compression test and left side had 118 psi pretty quick. I also have a slight piston slap noise on right side. Anyway yes it needs to be freshened up and the start by hand thing was just an example of how weak she done got. (dident know others would) but just wanted a good site sponser with a fast turnaround that's all. The old guy that does them local doesent care about his work as long as its close and he gets paid. I want mine as close to perfect as possible. Thanks again

Leave the old man in his rocking chair and go to a site sponsor! lol all of them are reputable. I personally used passion racing when i did my top-end and it worked out great for me, very happy with the work. Im just a little sad that i diddnt have them port it (diddnt have the extra cash). so I would recommend a port job while getting the top-end done.

Just do a little calling around and see who you like talking witht he most. I personally use Redline and Cameron does great work and his turn around time is great also but it is really who you want to go with.
