how to get the spring off the shock?

stock? i know on works just put the valve down and push dont on the spring and pull the retainer out. a friend might come in handy then.

 

Fromts I dont think can be rebuilt. Rears you need a spring compressor and I think the bottom uncrews. I hope someone chimes in with a better answer. Id like to know as well.

I've never wasted much time on the front shocks, but I think once the spring is compressed in a spring compressor, the lower red end unthreads. Not sure though.

 

The rear shock you can get the spring off without a compressor but unthreading both preload nuts all the way, and it should loosen the spring enough to slide out the lower spring retainer. It's shaped like a "c" and just slides out. Good luck getting the preload back where it was, though.

 

I'd use a spring compressor.
