troyzstang
So I had the bike out over the weekend. (First time with this bike) I'm having a serious problem shifting under hard acceleration. When I get to third or forth she doesn't want to shift any further unless I back out of it. Is this a common problem? If so what's the fix. Thanks for any direction you may be able to share. Troy
Larry's Shee
You clutching or not? Could be grooved basket. Shift shaft mod, star mod, easy shift kit should solve rest of problems. If you're making crazy power then you need to mod tranny.
troyzstang
Thanks Larry, My bike is mostly stock. I do use the clutch while shifting. So the solution would be external. Is this a common issue?
ticktock
Did you see my shift shaft video? I called fast and bought a new shaft that's modded. Going to put my old one back in for this weekend. Adam
locogato11283
could be needing a new clutch. but make sure the basket isn't groove what oil are you running also make sure everything is aligned correctly. You're an idiot. What would needing a new clutch have to do with it not shifting under a load? If the clutch was slipping, it would actually be helping to get it shifted under a load. From now on, shut up. Troy, have you adjusted the shift shaft adjuster? It's the eccentric screw that sets the shift shaft in place on the shift star. I like to center mine so that the top and bottom hook are the same distance from the nubs on the shift shaft. That's where I would start. I'd pull the clutch cover and inspect everything. Snap some pictures and post them if need be. If this is a new bike to you, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check everything over.
locogato11283
napoleon, have you ever had a clutch break apart or crack? because i have and shifting was difficult. was just giving him something else to look at. No, you gave him nothing. You weren't specific in your post. Just BUY A NEW CLUTCH! It was only after I called your stupid ass out on it that you decided maybe you better find something more specific to say. Nice try. Stick to posting on the FB page, because I can assure you those are the only people you might be able to look intelligent to.

ticktock
Tyler, I'm at work and on my phone. The eccentric screw - is that te one between the shifter spring? Troy and I both have the same problem. It's hard to shift under load w/ or without the clutch. We're not trying to shift like an override but the rpms have to back down quite a bit to shift. My shift shaft is worn and could be part of my problem but they are generally doing the samething. Adam

It can actually become warn causing you to not be able to adjust it properly. I am not 100% certain that it is causing the problem, but that's where I would start looking if it were me. blowit
As mentioned above, a damaged clutch assy that fails to fully disengage can certainly cause your issues. If you can pull the clutch and roll the bike when in gear with it off, it is likely OK. Adjustment of the shift shaft assures that the shaft returns to "home" position correctly but does not change the amount of force applied to the shift cam. This is a typical symptom of bent shift forks or shafts. Typically they shift well in some areas but there is a particular shift that is difficult or impossible. The best you can do is inspect all components under the clutch cover, including the clutch, then plan to open the trans to inspect further. I will note that we have seen clutch packs with shattered friction plates exhibit these issues in which they might seem OK at idle, but the higher the rpm, the higher the centrifugal forces in the clutch. I had the same problem on my bike and if the eccentric screw is not perfectly centered in the shift shaft it can cause all sorts of shifting issues. I had to adjust mine about 3 times to get it right where it would let me shift at high rpm's and or keep it from finding a neutral.
ticktock
Well I went home at lunch. I ran to the computer pulled up the manual. Read it and went out to the garage. First thing I did was check alignment, it must be done whole in gear jeff at fast told me this the dog is under the center of the shaft whil in neutral Then I removed the eccentric screw and found large gouges. Reinstalled as I can't do much then adjusted to the proper spacing and the shifting looks better. Need to test it to be sure. I have a new screw folding washer and shaft on the way from FAST. So my shifting mech will be new. Clutch slips intermittently but I'm going to live with it until I build a motor when I'll need a new clutch anyways. Thanks for the help, Adam

And when mine rattled loose last fall the bitch wouldnt shift for shit at high rpms. This also lead to tearing up the shift forks.
Surfrjag
adam are you gonna be testing it before we ride sat? troy if you have time you can bring it by and we can take a look at the spacing on the shifter, hopefully the forks arent bent and we can grind the welds off the footpet and put some bolts in
ticktock
Tested? No, Rideable ya lol - If all else fails I will run up and get my 125. That thing is fast! I will have something to ride at least and we can have fun! Brandon will be riding too. I should be able to get it back together tomorrow after school.
