SmartParts
Saturday my banshee was stolen. It's a long story, but the gist of it is I let a young african american take it for a test ride and he didn't come back. However the stars and planets aligned for me and after I had his companion arrested my banshee was recovered less than 24 hours later, and from what I can tell it's intact. But the key is missing. Am I SOL. Do I need to order a new ignition? Whats the best strategy for me?
sheerider11
Fuck that ignition. You got it stolen even when you had it hooked up, you can take it out. Glad to hear you got your shee back. Now you learned, test ride with cash in hand.
Nieskes
I hope your not asking how you can steal it..........
Phelps
cut the red and black key wires and twist them together.
SmartParts
I hope your not asking how you can steal it.......... Would be happy to provide you with the police report lol. Fortunately my banshee was recovered and from a quick inspection the only thing missing now is the key. Im merely worried if i were to resell it the fact that i've bypassed the ignition a new owner wouldnt like. Not that I ever used it since I just used the kill switch. I take it it would be cost prohibitive to have another key made, Or if I can buy another ignition
Phelps
yeah just have someone sell you a key switch. there is nothing about a key that protects it from getting stolen
CruelSoul
True that my buddy lost his key one day bypassed it in 2 seconds.
dcalsv02
Its very common (at least with my experience) that a lot of people have the ignition key eliminated anyways. You are fine.
Larry's Shee
Have you tried hitting up the stealership for a new key? Very lucky you got it back
ginger
i bought a key and the whole cylinder deal on ebay for around 20 bucks.
midlifecrisis
Loco once told me that keys keep honest people honest, and that I truly believe. I had my key fly out of the ignition once on the way to go riding, and luckily had my smartphone on me to access bansheehq when I got there to get the same info these guys are giving you. I have since had a tether switch installed, and clipped the loose end to my brake cable so it doesnt fly out. The tether will give you more piece of mind than the key ever did, believe me, lol. Heres the link to the one I bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATV-Engine-Kill-Switch-Tether-Yamaha-Banshee-350-87-06-/110724504728?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item19c7b1dc98
SmartParts
Thanks guys this is great advice. Im going to cut the wires and start there to evaluate the situation better. Then I will order a new key cylinder since that seems to be the cheapest option.
SmartParts
So i cut off the cylinder lock and twisted the red and black together. I take it i messed up somewhere along the way since it wont start.
SmartParts
So for anyone wondering, I connected black to black+white and red to brown. Kicked it over and it fired right up. The thief was nice enough to put in new spark plugs for me!
yz4jdm
For some reason I remember just unplugging mine from the harness... Did you cut it pre or post connector?
