Drag racing at Coos Bay/ Box Car Presidents Day Weekend

My buddy was down there for new years and they had a track setup. They are planning on doing it again for Presidents Day pending they get enough donations to keep the equipment running. They kept the track pretty well groomed for the weekend. I'm plannin on heading down with a few guys for the weekend. I know it's tough to get the Oregon guys organized for a ride, but maybe this will get a few guys out there.

Here is a video they posted.

Here is the email that my buddy got from them.

We've had lots & lots of emails from folks saying what a great time they had at last weekend's Sand Jam...most of them asking when the next one would be. So we've scheduled another one for next month!

FEBRUARY 18, 19, 20. PRESIDENT'S DAY WEEKEND. THIS WILL BE A TWO-DAY EVENT.

Donations for the New Years Sand Jam were "lighter" than we hoped and we kind of "lost our shorts" on it. To do one in February, we need DONATIONS to raise a minimum of $400 for transporting the tractors back in, diesel fuel for re-claiming the track & grooming, porta potties, etc. to pull it off.

We've already gotten donations of $200 from racing friends. So we're half way there. Please help us raise the other $200. If you'd like to donate and make this next event happen, please reply to this email and let us know how much you'll donate so we can start work asap. We'd sure like to keep the momentum going and hold regular events & races at the Box Car track.

Thanks everyone!

Email this address for the donations:

oregon.dunes.race.park@gmail.com

I was the one that 05stroker was talking about was down there. It was a cool deal for sure. It's great to see people willing to step up support this!!

that email will keep you updated but to donate here's two ways to do so:

private contributions can be sent by paypal to palmer338_richard@msn.com

business' or checks make payable to, oregon dunes raceway by mail to branden moore 4258 franklin blvd. eugene, oregon 97403

any and all donations are appreciated. we aren't asking for big money. private-$50?, business-$100? whatever you can do.

we need everyone's help to make this track work. the show of support is critical to assure the track's future. with enough help from the sand community the track can establish a schedule, draw sponsorships, and maintain the property for an ongoing place to race.

let's thank richard palmer who has leased the land, spent the time and money to get it started. let's help him make it a success.

the hope is to have monthly races year 'round but it takes riders to show up and support it.

as stated, this time will be a two day event on feb. 18th and 19th

feel free to pm me for a list of this event's sponsors so you can show your appreciation by using their products and services.

also visit the track on facebook at oregon dune race park

thanks, justin

so is this just a race or will there be ppl rideing there too.i have never ben there but i live real close lol

Oh no....Coos Bay is very large riding area that is broken up into 3 areas. Horsfall, Spinreel, and Bull Run. There is a ton of variety there with big dunes, trees, trails, beach. You name it's there. Well not a lot of bowls but you can spend several days there exploring around. The drag races are being held at the southern most point of the dunes in an area known as boxcar hill.

Here is a link to a site that gives great information:

And note....ANYBODY can race. Stock to highly modified are all welcome!

I think that Zuki hit on it, but something that needs to be stressed about this is that this is open to EVERYONE... You dont need to have a drag bike, a fast bike, a special color of bike, be a racer, be a certain sex, anything.. As long as you are capable of operating your bike safely and have a helmet (other safety equipment is recomended but not necassary) you are ENCOURAGED AND WELCOME TO RACE.. This is an opportunity for people to race their buddies or anybody else in a somewhat oraganized race without fear of being of getting in trouble for racing.

sweet deal i just got my 4 mill running agin see you all there. O and where is the best place to camp

If you want to stay down at the sound end where the racing is taking place you have 2 options:

1) Horsfall Campground which does not have hook ups but does have bathrooms and showers http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Horsfall/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70453

2) There is a new campground that is on the same property as the race park but it is very basic, no hookups, bathrooms or showers yet. I don't know of a way to reserve ahead of time but I am sure if you email the address I gave above they can give you more info.

2 other options that are a few miles north would be:

1) KOA with full hookups and showes but it's about a mile ride to the dunes from there http://oregonduneskoa.com/?gclid=CNfXo52pvK0CFQkaQgodYlNp_A

2) Near the KOA, no hookups but a much shorter ride to the dunes than the KOA. Can't find a link but if you google it you should be able to at least find a phone # to call

Everybody has their own preference on what they like the best. If you plan to ride all the dunes, the KOA and or Myrtlewood factory are nice because they are central.
