So Cal Suspension
Just FYI, any petroleum based products have a tendency to degrade o-rings. I've always kept a stick of regular old chap stick in my tool box, and use that in all the o-ring grooves. Works perfect, and water based. kthurm
I've heard that lotion and stuff like that wear down o rings too, that might not be true. I just play it safe and use grease

Phelps
i use "transgel" used for holding automatic transmission parts in place. melts away after 130 degree's and just a very thin layer is needed so you dont run the risk of pushing a O ring out when installing it. sangheraent
I used to use vasoline and it was shit compared to bel ray waterproof grease. i have dropped my cool head and the orings stayed in place. I dont really care about the degrading I find a reason to open the cool head every year and I havent really seen any serious wear.

answ3r
Thanks for the great ideas......I will see what available locally and make it happen. Thanks! Silicone grease for urethane bushings is SUPER sticky and should not degrade o-ring. You could also use caliper slide pin grease but it's less sticky.
